If you are one, like me, who was caught off guard by the "Now you have to pay" notice to continue 'trying out' customizations for your PC, you can now have a voice. Reply to this post with sites you have found that offer truly FREE downloads for customizing your PC's look.

I am doing this primarily for the principle of the matter. The issue, for me, isn't necessarily the money (although I could see it being an issue for people with tight budgets - $20 could keep one from going hungry in a two week period). The issue is that NOTHING...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was mentioned about a 50 meg limit and/or a $20 fee to continue beyond that limit in ANY of the member registration screens or documents, including confirmation emails (I know because I printed them out). If I HAD known about this upfront, I would have left this site and I believe that is the fear of the organization maintaining this site - that if people know about this caveat, they will leave immediately and go elsewhere.

I will monitor my post closely for any type of tampering or censorship by the administrators as there was nothing stated in the registration that the forums are moderated and/or censored. Freedom of Speech laws insure that ALL opinions are heard.

Straight from the FAQ here on this site:

Level 2: WinCustomize registered user. These are users who have created accounts. Accounts are free to create. Registered users can create posts, talk on the message boards, submit skins, make comments on skins, participate on polls, etc. In the future, there will be a cap on how many megabytes of content they can download without some sort of limitation being placed (such as being put into a download queue).

Seeing as your user number is 1023011 you must have downloaded A LOT of stuff in a fairly short amount of time. If you don't feel the site is worth your money, feel free to go away! Those of us who have purchased subscriptions obviously feel differently.

BTW, Freedom of Speech does not extend to this privately run forum. You can voice your opinions all you want but if you say something that violates the TOS you can be assured this thread will be locked or d.

Good Luck on your search for the ultimate free skin site.

Sorry, lad...but no, you are quite wrong.  Wincustomize.com is a publicly accessed PRIVATE site which can incorporate any laws and/or limitations its Admins/Owners/members so desire.

Please, do, continue "monitoring". Hopefully that activity will keep you too busy to do much more "typing".

Freedom of speech laws do not say that anyone can visit someone's PRIVATE site and spew their nonsense at will. Bye!

To add.....Wincustomize.com was born out of the demise of Skinz.org, at a time when other sites including Customize.org and Deskmod were both down or not back yet, etc....and a stable, assured site was actually NEEDED to fill the void.

There will always be a problem with the new and naive being unaware of history as it pertains to skinning.

Perhaps a permanent article needs to be penned to display to/for all [sites] showing the history and evolution of the World of Skinning and its 'community'...

ohhh yeh if ya consider annoying popups etc. FREE....NOT... id rather pay the $20 and not have to deal with them alone .. not to mention not all skinners found here post their skins at other sites ...

Ok 1st and foremost (and even more important than the waste of space in the message board by this thread) No one, and I mean NO ONE will have any popcorn unless is bought at my stand >



2nd and far less important. Fuerza if you had any principles at all you would've saved your self the time and effort of this useless thread. If money isn't the issue, then please move on with out any sorrow.
Nothing is free in life, and neither is the usage of bandwidth with out contribution (I might want to charge you for the use of any of my designs)
If you have not contributed in any form (via uploads or money) then you have lost nothing, so there is nothing to know 'upfront' so you can pack up your little ego and be on your way to those "free" sites.
And last but not least. Think of this as your neighbor's house.... Once you step inside, you have no freedom of anything you are under his roof so thereby you live by his rules. So don’t be surprise if you find yourself bearing an exile title or removed from the place due to the arrogance assumption that you can voice threats about laws in a privately owned site.
That been said. We all hope you've enjoyed your visit here and the designs you have downloaded prior to the 50 Megs cap-out.

Freedom of speech? This isn't a Government run site you know.

The ironic part is, Fuerza, if you would have come here on the board with a good attitude and tried to contribute in a meaningful way, you could have earned the right to unlimited downloads. Not to mention made a lot of good friends and maybe learned something about skinning while you were at it.

When I first found this site, I said "wow, no popups/unders, great material and usually friendly people". I had no clue about the download limit but when it occured, I quickly and quietly paid for precisely the reasons I stated in the above sentence. You get what you pay for..........

I'm guessing he/she comes from a very shallow gene pool. The original post in this thread proves the old saying, 'there's one born every minute' to be very accurate. Also, where do you live? I want to know where I can feed myself for two weeks on $20. I thought the cost of living was pretty low here. You must be eating a lot of crackers.

Well I suppose that one COULD feed themselves for 2 weeks for $20, but personally I would rather not.
Let's see....lots of Ramen, maybe some bread and peanut butter, some tofu/soy/whatever meat is cheap/kool-aid, pasta. Bleh
