If you are one, like me, who was caught off guard by the "Now you have to pay" notice to continue 'trying out' customizations for your PC, you can now have a voice. Reply to this post with sites you have found that offer truly FREE downloads for customizing your PC's look.

I am doing this primarily for the principle of the matter. The issue, for me, isn't necessarily the money (although I could see it being an issue for people with tight budgets - $20 could keep one from going hungry in a two week period). The issue is that NOTHING...ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was mentioned about a 50 meg limit and/or a $20 fee to continue beyond that limit in ANY of the member registration screens or documents, including confirmation emails (I know because I printed them out). If I HAD known about this upfront, I would have left this site and I believe that is the fear of the organization maintaining this site - that if people know about this caveat, they will leave immediately and go elsewhere.

I will monitor my post closely for any type of tampering or censorship by the administrators as there was nothing stated in the registration that the forums are moderated and/or censored. Freedom of Speech laws insure that ALL opinions are heard.

Oh, gimme a break. The fact that this person is so dang serious about it makes it all the more laughable.

Nothing's keeping you here, Fuerza. And the other responses to this thread make it clear that the WC community just isn't very receptive at all to your stance.

I've been here about a year now, and I was very quick to pay my $20 to register for many of the reasons already mentioned here. I also purchsed Cursor XP and Object Desktop, and I've been very, very happy with what I've gotten in return for my monetary contributions. And if people were so turned off to WC because of the download limits and the $20 cost of a 2-year subscription, then I don't think we would have seen over 600 people subscribe during the subscription drive during December.

There are tons of great people here, very talented artists and fun people to post with on this messageboard. And sometimes you luck into finding out about things like EmotiPad, which I probably never would have heard of if it hadn't been for carolee and the posts about it.

And as for the "free speech" crap...well, that's already been addressed by many people already, so I'm not going to add any commentary to it.

I would hope that somebody who survives on a $20 budget for food would not spend 25 MONTHS worth of food on a computer, plus 2 weeks worth of food every month for INternet access...

That was a pleasant surprise for me. I had uploaded a couple of skins and used up my 50Mb limit and then whammo I'm suddenly able to download again thanks to Frogboy.

Some people only want to take and take and give nothing in return as if it was their right. Downloading from this site isn't a right, it's a privilige which has to be earned, either by monetary means or by contributing in some way to the expansion of the community and popularity of the software.

A nicer bunch of blokes (and sheilas, i'm sure ) can't be found elsewhere on the net.

Why is it that most people who bring up "freedom of speech" haven't a clue what it's about? Amendment 1 of the US Constitution:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Has nothing to do with privately owned message boards.

And not all public speech is protected by the Government either. Try yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater to start a panic and find out.

As for boycotting this site, it's hardly going to be hurt by people who don't contribute to the site in any appreciable manner no longer sucking up the bandwidth that others pay for. (That's the point of the download cap.)

Yup. It has more to do with preventing congress from making laws that would inhibit freedom of speech, no? not to allow trolls to freely flame on skin sites.

He's not exactly the brightest crayon in the box, but this boycott idea of his isn't bad... Imagine if all those that feel the way he does actually band together and do what he suggests... Oh my gawd... No more complaints on the message board... No more personalized skin demands... And all that ripe bandwidth just sitting there unused... Boy, that will teach us...

Well I don't get it. $20 bucks is not alot of money considering it spans 2 years of unlimted downloads, and all the perks that come with the level 4 user status.

Not to metion all the friends you can make here. And all the stuff you can learn.

I would rather pay to contribute to a site that is very well moderated and deals with rips very well and helps with everything then download for free on a chessy site.
