Since Update, computer wakes up to a different user profile

Plus...changing user profile is difficult due to auto switch to original user profile

Since the latest Stardock update (I use the Start Menu product) I've had problems keeping my computer on my preferred user profile. I have two user profiles on this computer - 1) the original from when I purchased the computer and used my personal email (let's call it coolwrite) and, 2) my business profile which I use 98% of the time (we'll call it RLR). When my computer restarts, it automatically restarts with my original profile (coolwrite) and has always done that. I get it, I registered this computer when new with that account. But now, after the update, I have two problems.

1) It's very hard to change users because it seems to very quickly default to the coolwrite user even when I try to change. I have to have my mouse ready in the bottom right corner at the exact moment the accounts come up and quickly click twice (not once) to even attempt to switch to the RLR user. Many times even that doesn't work and it reopens in the coolwrite user again and again.

2) The second problem comes when I've finally been able to get it goin in the RLR user. If I close my computer (not even shutting it off, simply closing the laptop), upon reopening it's reverted back to the coolwrite user and I have the same tough time getting back to the RLR user. That should not happen. If I'm on RLR, it should stay on RLR unless the entire computer restarts, not sleeps.

These have been very frustrating. Any help is welcome.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. That does not sound a Start11 or whichever Stardock's Start Menu product you have in your system, problem. To be sure, you can uninstall Start11 reboot and retest if the issue still there. From what I know, Start11 does not control how its user log in their computer. Since, it only start after you login into your computer, so it does not have control to which account you login while booting.

Thank you,
Basj,

Agreed.  This is nothing to do with Start11.  It cannot alter which account logs in.

It sounds like your original profile is set to login without a password. You can change this using the netplwiz command.

To use "netplwiz", open the Run dialog box by pressing the Windows key + R, type "netplwiz" and press Enter; this will open the User Accounts window where you can manage user login settings. Make sure there is a check in the "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer" box for both accounts.

If your original profile doesn't have a password, and netplwiz won't let you assign one, you can do it by opening the Settings app, select Accounts, then select Sign-in options, then Select Password.

With multiple accounts I find it is also helpful to turn off "Use my sign-in info to automatically finish setting up my device after an update or restart" under Settings/Accounts/Sign-in options.
