SKIN RIP ??

Where goes the fine line for a skin to be a rip??

The WB Skin "Pearlblue" is basically a recolored version of my own "M3 Blueglass" skin. 9 out of 10 elements i have made. And I am mentioned nowhere.

What do u think ???

aside from the start button, the systray and the coloring. the task bar is exactly the same the lil dots next to the tasks, the tasks buttons them selves and the smaller bar on the top the top are visually the same. without downloading them and actually digging in to them, id say theres a few parts that look borrowed....

Yes, the titlebar is different, but the scrollarrows, scrollbars, menuitems, menubackground, taskbarbuttons, toolbarbuttons, systembuttons, log off buttons etc etc are mine ! He's just recolored those.

You got some talent there michael and this other skin? Well, if it is a rip that it comes 2nd in my list of 'WORST RIPS EVER'.
(For those who wonders witch came first; dont know the url anymore but there was a site quite a long time ago that was hosting pixtudio's design, however they had colored into some weird greenish tint... )

its a rip..... i just took windowframetooltop.bmp and expanded them they are exactly the same, the pearlblue shows reminants of the dots being erased...in the left section (the one seen in the screen shot). but the right or secondary top is the exact same just a different color..

its easy to see where a novice would leave unseen {to the naked eye} reminants of thigs being erased...but maginfy that baby and there ya are ...

...drum roll ends

/me moves aside as the skin is blown in to cyber space by jafo and his team of lean, mean, dis-moderating machines.

Sadly i cant post a comment to the "author" of pearlblue... I have had that problem for a while...

But thanks all for your comments and time to get in to the subject. Especially HG_Eleminator for his pro help!!

for those who rip a warning, skins have little thumb prints . and its not that hard to find out if you borrowed them ...all skins have little flaws that like a fine gem, make each unique.

"wow, thats deep. did you get that off a bumper sticker?"

-an extremely goofy movie

no its true.. i have been disecting and modding skins for years (for my own use) and i have seen the various flaws that "to the naked eye" cant be seen .. but magnify them abt 950 times and there ya go.......

IMHO - the dark blue one may have borrowed an item or two (or 10) of those shown in the screen shot, but there are a lot of elements which are certainly new items too:

New = Start button, Bottom of Start Menu, Middle left of start menu, All Programs background, right of start menu, top of start menu, Top of window, left of window, right of window, bottom of window

Seemingly "Borrowed" = Task buttons, task bar, Log off button, shut down button, tool bar, tool bar items, taskbar separator

There are also some bits which seem to be give-away that this is a work based on the M3 Bluegrass:

* Position of the system icon in the menu bar (as it fits with Bluegrass title bar design, and appears the same but out of place with the design on the 2nd)
* Taskbar re-size bar/handle - as it looks to still be grey which doesn't fit the 2nd skin, and seems identical to the first

There is another thing to note - the "new" items exhibit a particular style where the highlight is at the top only and fades from the center out to the edge. The "borrowed" elements exhibit a different style where the highlight is primarily at the bottom with a lesser highlight at the top,and the fading towards the edges is much less pronounced.

There is always the chance that these elements have been arrived at independently though as the glassy style used is quite common.

Overall - I'd say someone thought the first scheme was a nice starting point (you should feel flattered )and they created a fair amount of new work so that in their view it was different enough to be OK. However, it would seem worth asking them to add a credit for the recoloured parts, unless they can demonstrate ownership by posession of source files. A little too different to be pulled automatically I'd have thought.
