Opening up task manager from taskbar with auto-hide enabled crashes task manager

Hello.

When I turn on start 11 auto-hide for the taskbar and I try to open up task manager by right-clicking on the (unhidden) taskbar, the context menu lags out for about 10 secs, I can't click any of the options

If I am able to select options and try to open up task manager, task manager bugs out and doesn't load/crashes.

This doesn't happen if I have auto-hide disabled or if I use the native windows auto-hide, I can open task manager just fine every time

Please try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after uninstall is done. Re-download Start11 v2.11 from your account download page. Install it. Reboot immediately again after the installation finished. Retest it and report back.

Sorry for the delayed reply. I have tried the above steps and it's still doing the same thing. When I right-click on the taskbar while it's on auto-hide. the context menu lags out

Few questions:

  1. Do you have any other 3rd party application running in your system which also change how your Taskbar, such as Explorerpatcher, StartAllBack, Displayfusion, etc? Or any application that came with your system that load itself and add something to your taskbar.
  2. Did you turn off autohide in Windows taskbar setting?
  3. Do a Test install in Windows Sandbox https://forums.stardock.com/505872/start11-support-faq#windowssandbox. Do you see the same issue while in there?

Thank you,

I tested it in windows sandbox and it's doing the same thing, lagging out.

I don't have any other applications controlling the taskbar on my actual system either. I even restarted the explorer to see if it helps, but it doesn't

I actually did a screen recording showing what happens

https://youtu.be/34RrcMJ9Nvc

As you can see, it did take a few tries to get it to get stuck, but it happens very frequently and there's no telling when it'll do it

This doesn't happen at all with auto-hide disabled, as many times as I right-clicked, it never lagged out

Saw the video, thank you. Need more information.

  1. Just to clarify the issue. It show it does not happen every time. Maybe after few time hide-unhide the taskbar and right click on it, yes?
  2. It still happen with or without any application open and running in the back, yes?
  3. Please share your Graphics card details.

Thank you,

Hi Pundaker1870,

You said,

End of quote

Although having auto-hide disabled entirely seems to work best in my testing, I have noticed that using the Windows 11 native auto-hide can result in the same issue (see video below).  I would suggest the best way to safely avoid the issue altogether would be to refrain from using taskbar auto-hide altogether at this time.

See my video link below and notice around the timestamp 0:15-0:22 area.  Here I observed an occasional, yet clear context menu lag, infrequently delaying my ability to click the taskbar option:

Interestingly, when I turned Off Start11's Start Menu style completely, the strain on this process can be less significant.  When it's On, the issue appears (infrequently).  You may confirm my findings against your own if you like, and I will have this all logged internally for review.
