Fences 5: files get placed "underneath" fences

Hello all!

I recently upgraded to Fences 5 from Fences 4.  Sometimes, when I'm on a research mission, I'll flood my desktop with downloaded files (images, PDFs, etc.), and sort them afterwards.  I notice SOME of those files will be placed UNDERNEATH the existing fences.  I also notice that, occasionally, sometimes when there are files underneath a fence, if I double click on an item WITHIN a fence, it will open the file underneath the fence instead.

Is there a setting I'm missing within the Fences 5 settings that would prevent new files from being placed underneath a fence?  Or is this a "bug" / lack of a feature that needs to be corrected by programmers?

I'm using Windows 11 Home (OS build 22631.4037), and Fences v 5.81.

Thanks!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. For this issue, I would recommend for you to create a temporary Fence and set a rule for all new item on your desktop to automatically be send into this Fence. This will ensure these new icons will not be under another Fence.

Thank you.

Thank you for your reply and recommendation.  But this is just a temporary work-around.

Is this phenomenon a bug, or a failure of coding within Fences 5?  Shouldn't Fences be coded NOT to allow files to appear underneath fences?

It should, but I believe you need to turn on Windows "auto arrange icons". Refer short video below.

Please also try use of the "Align to Grid" option, if "Auto Arrange" is not suitable. Please let us know if that helps?
