Fences going to wrong monitors after resuming from sleep and snapshot restore makes it worse

I hope it can be fixed. I've had the same issues since Fences 2/3

I had the above problem with Fences 2/3 and so bought Fences 4 hoping it would be solved. It wasn't so I tried again and bought Fences 5 hoping it would be solved and sadly I'm having the same issue that on resuming from sleep fences are on the wrong monitors. And restoring a snapshot makes things worse as it layers fence on top of fence and the only fix is manual. Is there a thread that's still working on this? I would love Fences were it to work but it's worse than just doing a manual job myself.

I realise the issue is complicated and probably Windows is significantly to blame but I feel that a program I've now bought three versions of should have fixed the multiple monitor issue by now. I'm just not well enough or technical enough for complex fixes. I just want a programme that works.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Have you tried Fences 5.5 Beta? https://forums.stardock.com/527284. It has enhancements build into it to deal with multi-monitor issue.

  • Multi-monitor enhancements

    • image-20240410-184852.png
    • Updated scaling improvements for beta multi-monitor configuration enhancements

    • Additional improvements to multi-monitor detection and selection

    • New ability for icon/group layouts to adapt intelligently to changing multi-monitor conditions

Thanks

I have tried enabling 'Store my Fence group positions on a per-screen-resolution basis' but it doesn't appear to help.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But need to know which Fences version you have now? And you on which Windows version and OS build number? Use Winver.exe to get that information.

Thank you.

I'm having the same problem. I installed a new secondary monitor - now when the monitors sleep, all fences are moved to the new monitor when waking. I can use the backup to move things where they belong, but this happens every time.

Did not happen with the old (and quite obsolete) monitor, which was also secondary.

Using Fences 5.54
