Startx enhanced taskbar slowness

For the longest time I have not been able to figure out why my hide/show system button has been so slow.  Finally, I read a post here and noted that the 'enhanced taskbar' is the issue. Is this being actively worked on? If I disable the enhanced taskbar my computer's 'freed' and things are 'snappy' again. 

What's going on here?  I keep hoping things get better but they aren't. Any information I can give to help I will.  Let me know what you need.  Until then the 'enhanced taskbars' going to be disabled on my system.
