All icons disappeared from desktop.

All of my desktop icons suddenly disappeared after I rebooted my computer. I tried double clicking but it did not work. I searched for fences on my start menu but nothing showed up all that is left is the enable fences on the desktop right click menu but it does not do anything when clicked. pls help!
