Fences move to subscription

Free upgrade to Fences 5

It seems to me that the free upgrade to Fences 5 is luring people into a subscription rather than a perpetual licence.  Am I right and what are the consequences, if any, if I stick with Fences 4?

Hello,
If Fences 4 work for you, you could stick with it. Fences 5 have some new features and some bug fixes. You can do a free 30 days trial and see if it work for you. Do know that there is also permanent license for Fences 5, if you prefer that.

Thank you.

A further question.  I can see upgrade for a subscription. Can I get an upgrade price for a permanent licence?  I already have 2 Fences 4 permanent licences.

As mention here: https://forums.stardock.com/524050.

Is there an ‘Upgrade’ option for a permanent license?

At this time, ‘Upgrade’ pricing is only available for subscription licenses and not for permanent licenses of Fences 5. However, during the Release Preview, permanent licenses are discounted for all customers.

Great way to support the customers who have supported you for so many years. NOT! In no way does Fences justify being a software service and no upgrade for a permanent license is further crapping on your customers.

How can I trust that you won't do this to the rest of your product line, like Start 11. I can't and you have now convinced me to not upgrade to the latest Start 11 or Fences 5.

End of Patrick's quote

Start11 v2 is not provided as a subscription.  It is just like Start8, 10 and 11 v1.

I would be very surprised if Start11 ever moved to a subscription.

Yes, that is really not a good news and has a huge (4x) price increase.

 just checked my orders:
- I bought Fences 2.0 in 2012 for $9.99
- In 2016 I upgrade to Fences 3.0 for $4.99
- And in 2022 I paid $10.41 for Fences 4.0

We are only 2 years later and now I would have to pay either 9,59€ for a proposed single upgrade, 11.99€ per year for the subscription (without upgrade) or 35,99€ for a perpetual.
If there is a paid upgrade every 2 years now that's a heck of a price increase.
But hey, we just passed from an upgrade every (around) 5 years to 2 years with at least a double price increase if you stay with a perpetual. That mean that is a total of 4x price from before... I won't talk about what the new version is bringing to the table.

Stardock, I like your product but hey... This just feels wrong for your faithful customers.
