My fences is lagging for some reason, can someone help me find out why?(By the way every stardock software is pretty much newly installed, just renewed Object Desktop subscription.)

Edit: Video set to private for privacy purposes, will upload another one soon.

Edit: Video link updated.

Also the info you have requested:

Windows information:

Edition Windows 10 Pro

Version 22H2

Installed on ‎21.‎07.‎2023

OS build 19045.3693

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0

Fences version: 5.00 (Also happened in the pervious one, 4.32 if I recall right. Checked the changelog, it was most likely 4.21 at the time of install.)

Monitor setup: Single monitor @ 1080p 60Hz, Display Scaling at 100%.

Additional info: I had most of the software from Object Desktop installed on my computer when I first took the video and created the thread. I have since purged all of them and reinstalled a subset of them before I shot a new video. I have also installed the Fences 5 preview in the process instead of the old version. The lag situation has improved a bit, but not by too much.

As for reproducing the issue, I did nothing but install Fences (and other Stardock software, full list below) before the issue popped up.

Stardock products currently installed on my computer:

Start11 v2.0

WindowBlinds 11.02 (017 - Windows 10 Edition)

SpaceMonger 3.0

SoundPackager 10.0 (Didn't actually apply any sound packs yet)

Fences 5.0

DeskScapes 11

CursorFX v4.03

Object Desktop Manager v4.01

System info: In this link, you should be able to see the make, model and components of the machine I'm running it on. Only the onboard SSD has been replaced with a Samsung 980. Apart from that, a Steelseries Rival 710 mouse and a Toshiba Canvio Basics HDD are plugged into the USB ports.

While shooting the video, I have chanced upon an unrelated bug where dragging and dropping in an empty area in a page could grab icons in a fence that resides in another page. In my situation, the fence that contained the icons were in the first page, where I had created a second page for a test fence for the video linked in this post.

Yet another unrelated bug report: Snapshot thumbnails don't show up.

Thank you for your reply.

I have edited the OP to include (maybe a bit more than) the information you requested. I also shot a new video to better show the issue without showing my icons and other stuff.

Look like you also using Animated dreams on your Deskscape. If, just as a test, you use normal wallpaper, does Fences work better?

I think I saw that one before, will check again but chances are that overlay is off already. I will try making it run on Nvidia GPU, but honestly I don't expect much, because the fences.exe I know runs only the settings UI.

Thanks for telling me, I wasn't aware of that being a known issue already. Though it's not the 2nd issue but the 3rd one. The 2nd one is randomly grabbing icons from other pages, did anyone report that one before?

Yes, if I remember correctly, this has been reported before. It just that it very difficult to reproduce the issue consistently. Do let us know if you can list up a proper steps that we can try to reproduce the issue consistently.

It's pretty much what you saw in the video and it's quite consistent for me:

1. Create an empty fence in the first page

2. Drag it to the right and release it somewhere to create a second page

3. Drag it around once again in the new page(might be unnecessary - video I posted starts from this step)

4. Start dragging in an empty area where there should be an icon in the first page

5. Observe that it doesn't draw a rectangle.

6. Release the mouse button

7. Observe that an icon from the first page has been placed into the second page

Further experimentation that did improve the performance but I can't use Fences like that lol

1. Remove all fences, let the icons go to the desktop

2. Create a new fence

3. Dragging that one around is less laggy, until you put some icons into it.

Not sure, why do you need to drag your fences around a lot of time? Usually, I just move it only when I need to arrange things, and once everything is where I like, the Fences most likely stay there for quite sometime until I need to move it again. My Fences hardly move for months.

I don't really move the fences around a lot, except when I'm testing the lag. As to why I opened this thread, I can list a few reasons on why I think this needs to be fixed:

1. It doesn't really look pretty when the fence just jumps around instead of properly following the mouse cursor.

2. It can be harder to make more precise adjustments because the changes you make are delayed on the screen.

Also, after some more testing I found out that it also lags a lot with anything that involves moving icons (when it animates moving icons - more icons moved at the same time, more lag) or resizing fences. I guess I'll give up and stop using Fences.

Well since I can not reproduce your issue on my system. I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

If you install the trial for Fences 5, do you still see the issue?

I already had Fences 5 installed by the time I edited the OP to include the required information, and I had purged Fences 4 before I installed 5 (along with all the other Stardock software I had installed at the time, some of which were also reinstalled soon afterwards). Also, what trial version? Did you mean the release preview?
