Sorry folks, the post got too big, to the point where our system cant handle displaying all 869 pages. It was confusing people not being able to see all of the pages so instead of letting that go I've locked the post. Short shrift- one of those phrases I rarely stop to wonder about

shrift - the act of being shriven

shriven - Confess to a punishable or reprehensible deed, usually under pressure
