Hi. Thanks for the reply. I had already been through that list a few times. As a complete newbie to Stardock, I still need a helping hand to get going in the apps I am trialling - Groupy2 (I really like this), Tiles2 and Fences4.
I really like these apps, but the more I trial them and try to make them work for me, the more I see a lack of documentation holding me back. One simple example just now was in Tiles2. I couldn't understand why several of my Pages were not showing. All it took was to click the tick on the Pages configuration screen, but nowhere is there any documentation to explain this - they were all ticked (but greyed out) and it wasn't obvious to me that I had to tick them again to make them show (why were they ticked in the first place?). I found the answer on the forum easily enough, but some basic instructions would have been valuable and saved me a certain amount of frustration. I found answers to my other questions above by trial and error but am I doing it the most efficient way?
Most of the documentation, such as you highlighted, seems to deal with cosmetic issues - colour, icon size, appearance and troubleshooting for example, not basic usage.
What would be really helpful would be to create some documentation for someone who has not seen the software before that includes, for example:
- Step-by-step instructions to get started once the software is installed (tutorials)
- A basic overview of how the software works - the product pages don't quite give enough. When I was struggling with Fences, it would have helped to know that the icons in a fence are basically just icons on the desktop (I think) and can be seen in an Explorer window
- Ideas as to how to make good use of the software
I'm thinking primarily of written documents but videos would be helpful as well. I have found a few you provide, but they're very limited in scope.
I do like the software and will probably buy the apps I mention. I'll probably also end up writing my own documentation. It's just a pity that Stardock doesn't seem to have put much thought into this, unless I am missing something.
Is this something Stardock might take a look at, and write some documentation?
