Most of my Icons are no longer in their fence

All of a sudden without warning, when I booted up my computer this afternoon most of my icons that were grouped in various fences have jumped out are on my desktop while the fences are blank. See the screenshot I've included. I hope someone can help me fix this so I don't have to move all of these icons again.
