WinXP system "freezes"

Hi. I enjoy the mods and cool look of many DesktopX themes. The problem is, my system (WinXP Pro, AMD Athlon 1800+, 512 meg DDR memory, 80 Gig RAID 0 hard drive, Radeon 8500 video card) freezes totally from time to time. It will not freeze if I unload DesktopX, and run the regular ole' Windows XP themes. Any help or advice will be welcome, let me know if you need more info.

I have found that sometimes desktopx will just go crazy and start eating ram. I haven't figured out why, but I have my suspicions. Windowblinds shouldn't mess anything up or freeze the system.

I think most of the problems are coming from plugins like performance meters and the like. Does the problem still persist if You are running a theme without any of them (To speak just graphics, nor fancy weather or performance graphs) ?

it is probably a plugin, also, just to check...

When it freezes up, hit the "caps" key abd see if the light turns on and off on the keyboard. This will let you know if the system is actually hung or locked up.

If it is locked up it tends to be a hardware, or hardware driver, bios issue.

If hung it tends to be an application or driver application issue where something is in contention for the CPU, RAM, or DMA channel and the system is actually still operating, but for all intents and purposes refuses to do anything to break out of the cycle of contention.

No problem with DX here. WinXP Pro,PIII750, 384MB Ram. I suggest defragmentation, spyware check, virus check, system optimization, registry problems. A poorly configured system would account for such problems.
