custom icon order doesnt work when changing resolution or win desktop scaling

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I don't have this issue on my system. But, my Fences contain only 10-20 icons per Fence. However, I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Note: While waiting, please provide below information:

1. You on Windows 10? Full version number please. Use Winver.exe.
2. You on Fences 3 or 4? Full version number.
3. Screen resolution and Scaling applied. 100%, 125%, 200%?

1. win 10 - custom ordering doesn't work 5 years so which win 10 is irrelevant

2. fences 3 and 4 - doesn't matter never worked, so this are irrelevant questions.

3. doesn't matter 100% or 300 % never works. After some testing - Problem is actually only in fences that are small in relations to icons so they need scrolling or have so much icons in relations to fences size that need to have scroll etc..(not all people wants to have small icons and more and more mow use tv with recommended scaling options which means no midget icons for only close to monitor viewing and more needs for scrolling fences....so this is relevant functionality because normally fences program are buying people with many icons) and when scaling changes fences can go from fit to whole screen to back to scroll needed- they don't fit all in whole fences screen. And of course inability to manually arrange all icons in fences beyond certain number. It is pure bad functionality. It is strange in all these years nobody complained or nobody tested this. I hope you will someday repair this disfunctions or bugs or however you want to call them.  So basically if we conclude please add functionality that all icons no matter how many can be arranged manually - test yourself (you cannot arrange icons after certain number-) it is not hard to do that. And also please solve bug so maintain sorting option will actually work also when changing scaling and resolutions(resolutions in combinations with scaling that changes number or rows in scroll needed fences) also for fences that have/need scroll button.

Can u explain with logic why did i have to answer  ? Because It doesn't work and i has never worked on all current and previous win 10 versions and didn't work with any fences version 3 and now current 4 version. So why should i answer you this irrelevant question. You could try your own product you sell and you will see problems/bugs/dysfunctionality i described for yourselves if you would really care a lot.

On the day I started at Stardock, I installed Fences, and never have I not had it installed on all my work and home PCs.

Because there is no such thing as 'too much information' when troubleshooting an issue that one \ few are seeing.

That said, I want to be clear on what you believe to be an issue.

When you scale your Desktop up or down, you don't want to have to Ctrl + Scroll wheel in\out to shrink\enlarge icons, yes?

If that is true, if you don't have Fences installed, you would still need to do that after a scale change, yes?  What you want is for Fences to get around how Windows functions by design, yes?

Also, while Fences does have extensive sorting options, it will not allow for this (nor will it likely ever):

To recreate : Connect computer to big 4k tv. You will have on win10 at least 300% scaling recommended. Then put in one of your fences for example 50 icons and sort it, (but you wont be able to sort every icon anyway- but i already suggested that you recreate problem--you need many icons-so many that fences will have scroll to recreate bug as i already described that after certain number of icons they cannot be arranged anymore in fence) then on win10 scale and layout change for example scaling from 300% to 100% and you will see that all icons will be reshuffle randomly and maintain sorting option doesn't work anymore. And then you will understand what i'm talking about ! Custom icon arrangement wont work because it reshuffles and cannot be arranged in the first place after certain threshold of icons. 

look what is scroll on fences (caused by many icons) to clarify:

It would be difficult to reproduce that nor do I believe that would be the best way to manage that many icons IMHO. 

If you have that many icons on your desktop in just one Fence, it would be prudent to put those icons somewhere else, Example:

/Documents/SomeFolderName

Then create a Fences Folder Portal to it.  Not only is sorting maintained, but you can also set different views.  Example with a folder with over 100 icons:

When you see the icons becoming smaller \ larger its me using Ctrl + Mouse Scroll wheel in and out.

1. Custom arrangement means CUSTOM ARRANGEMENT (((((((((((((((when u select in sorting sort by none-this allows you to sort however you want and not however stardock or microsoft want and then this positioning should be maintained and that is one of the main reasons people buy fences because microsoft doesn't allow custom arrangement of icons in desktop anymore with changing resolutions, scaling, projecting to another monitor reshuffles icons...That was the reason i bought fences in the first place, because i thought fences solve this problem as advertised..... )))))))))))))- but this doesn't work anymore under conditions i described above and in folder portal Icons cannot be repositioned !!! and function or need/wish for custom repositioning was the whole point of my first post so i really don't understand the point of this answer that doesn't solve anything.... . AND also all desktop shortcuts cannot just be moved in random different folder without many consequences or side aesthetics effects (not point of describing here if u don't know )

2. If You wish to make program better then try to make custom arrangement work for large numbers of icons and maintain sorting function actually work. Before fences i used for example free program desktopOK that knew how to do that and remembered positioning of icons and put them in the right order on click, so it can be done of course..... It is your programmers choice if they will find this worthy to program or not. But as a user i'm telling I would like to have that - and probably thousands of many others who want to solve problem of windows reshuffling their icons anytime they change resolution, play game with different resolution, connect notebook to big screen etc etc.... And right now Fences doesn't fulfill that promise as was advertised and just give me bad not good for me sorting options how to arrange icons. it is always funny when programmers try to tell people how they should work their workflow and that is statistically main reason that most information project implementation fails but you probably already know that. But stardock will probably not do that because it is satisfied and doesn't care because average Joe doesn't have so many icons and doesn't even notice that this doesn't work.
