Start11 Taskbar Height in Tablet Mode

When using my laptop in tablet mode, the taskbar has a bar behind it that's the normal/full height of the taskbar, as seen in photo:

I'm on Windows Version 22H2, most recent Start11.

Any tips to work this out, or is it just a bug in the program?

edit: For clarity; dark blue is the color of the taskbar. Light blue is the extra bar, which gets fully covered when the taskbar re-extends to full height upon leaving tablet mode. Black is just my desktop background.

Are you by any chance using an insider release of Windows 11?

I used to be in the program, but (if I recall correctly) I opted out. The Insider page in Settings now has the opt-in button available, so I'll presume I'm not.

The best way to verify that is to run winver.exe from command line. The popup box will show you the full Windows version number. That number is needed whatever the issue is when posting in the forum.

I'm on Version 22H2 (OS Build 22623.1037)

That looks to be a beta channel insider build.  Your opt out would take effect once the release version is newer than your version which isn't the case yet.

You need to install Start11 1.37 beta to resolve that issue with the experimental taskbar in that version of Windows.

Makes sense.

I'll hold off on the Start11 beta. The issue seems intermittent: sometimes it's there when I open my computer, sometimes it's not. I think it might only happen when I turn on, rather than wake from hibernation, but then go away on its own if the computer goes to sleep? Not 100% sure, but I'll keep an eye on it and see if there's any discernible patterns.

Update:

My desktop setup has my laptop sitting in tablet mode on a stand. When I turn it on in tablet mode, I'll get the extra bar. If I turn it on in "normal" laptop mode, it doesn't get the bar. So that might be causing the differentiation.

If we need more info, let me know and I'll find it!

You need to install the beta release of Start11.

This is being caused by the experimental taskbar the version of Windows you are using.  The updated Start11 is aware of the changes, the release version is not.

Okay cool.

How do I find the beta option? I'm not seeing it in the app or on the website

Try looking for how to get the beta here: https://forums.stardock.com/516511. 1st post.

Hey y'all.

I've downloaded the beta, and the issue persists. When my computer turns on in tablet mode, the taskbar height is wrong. Screenshot included to show the problem.

If I restart the computer, the problem goes away. Not sure if there's a difference between startup from being Shut Down vs startup from Restart that might trigger the change here, but the devs are def more tech savvy than I.

Any other tips would be helpful. I really like Start11, but if this issue persists I may switch back to Explorer Patcher.

Uninstall start11, reboot and then install the beta.

I did that yesterday.

I haven't come across the taskbar issue yet, but I've only shut down once, so I'll monitor over the next couple days. Now I'm getting a new issue though.

In Tablet Mode, I sometimes use a pen in handwriting mode for text entry. When I do that in the search bar on my browser, and hit enter, the text will be deleted, the handwriting panel will disappear, and File Explorer will restart (or at least that's what seems to happen, because the taskbar will disappear and reappear). That's a pretty wild glitch, and I'm not sure if it's a Windows issue or a Start11 one.
