Window locations

Can someone tell me how to adjust where new windows appear (such as IE windows, my computer, control panel, etc.)?

I was looking at the vgreen desktopX theme and all the windows appear just to the right of the side bar. In my theme, I want something similar. Right now, the new windows always cover up my sidebar.

I'm using winxp, if that makes any difference.

Someone may correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can set where on the screen a new window will automatically open, if that is what you mean. You can move a window where you want it. and close it. If you reopen that window it will appear there with this size choosen. But the memory for that function is limited. Eventually, it will basically forget and overwrite and set the old ones back to defualt.

There is a setting to increase the memory, but I forget it.

You can use WindowsFX to determine position and window size.

Thanks for the replies.

WindowsFX is indeed nice. I can set the position for a maximized window. However, if I open a link in a new window, it's not maximized and so I can't set its location. Is it possible to set the location of new windows hat aren't maximized?

Also, like I said, in the vgreen desktop theme everything stays off the sidebar without the use of windowsFX and I wonder how that happens. I don't mind using windows FX, I just need a simple solution to get ALL windows to stay off my sidebar.

Well, in javascript and in vbscript it's possible to determin the position of a new browser window, so therefore, imo, it must be possible through some kind of script to determin the position of a folder window as well.  But I don't know how. Can't you look at the script of the buttons that open folders in the said DX theme Desktop X accepts javascript and vbscript?

well, I just ran the dxtheme with windows FX and now my windows are actually off set even further to the right... which means something in that theme is off setting all windows to the right by the exact width of the sidebar.

I can't find any scripts or anything in it though. Oh well, windowsFX seems to get the job done well enough.

OK, that theme did something weird.

I checked it out, and now, even with DX unloaded, all my desktop icons are pushed to the right, and refuse to go back to the left. It's as if that zone on the left part of the screen was still there, although DX is unloaded now.
