Start 11 - Windows Key Causes Start Menu to Flash On and Off Rapidly

With Start11 enabled, clicking the windows icon or windows key on the keyboard causes the windows menu to blink on and off rapidly. The only way to stop it is to ctrl-alt-del and sign out. Can't figure out how to fix this.

Video of the behavior:

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more information on your system.

  1. Windows 10 or 11? And its full version numbers please. You can use Winver.exe to get those.
  2. Start11 version please.
  3. This happen all the time or when you have Windows open maximize?
  4. Does it also happen on other Start11 style like, Windows 7, modern or Windows 11 style?
  5. Any other details so we can try to reproduce the issue.
  6. Have you try uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot and retest it.

Thanks

I just bought 3 new Windows 11 machines and this behavior is happening on all of them. I have 2 Lenovo laptops and 1 Dell XPS desktop.

1. Windows 11 version 21H2.

2. Latest version, just purchased multi computer license, just downloaded. Version 1.24.

3. Happens most of the time, unpredictable. On my XPS machine, it is actually locked up to where the Start Menu won't even open now. So, I had to hard kill Start11 in task manager to bypass it for now.

4. It happens in all the modes.

5. It appears most likely to happen when I mouse click the Windows icon, less likely to happen when I press the Windows Key on the physical keyboard.

6. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, rebooted a few times. On that, I have had to re-enter my license, so not sure I’ve used up and wasted licenses.

I have also noticed that when it is working, it can get very sluggish and slow to respond. When I first installed it, the Start Menu would pop up pretty much instantly. But, that is getting slower and slower to where it becomes unusable.

What software have you installed on the other computers as it sounds like there may be a common link between them.  Also what Windows settings might you have changed?

This isn't something I am aware of being reported before by others either.

Mostly typical Office, Photoshop, Zoom kind of stuff. I also use Remote PC (https://www.remotepc.com/).

I am also using StartAllBack which is another software that gets you Windows 10 functionality in the taskbar and explorer similar to what Start11 does for the start menu. I realize Start11 does some of that but I like Start11 best for the Start Menu and I like StartAllBack for everything else. StartAllBack can also control the Start Menu but I have that turned off in the StartAllBack settings. Theoretically StartAllBack and Start11 are conflicting under the hood somewhere on that. I'll try uninstalling StartAllBack and runnning Start11 without it to see if that helps. I do ultimately need both running but that is a good trouble shooting option I'll try. While I'm doing that, if you have any other ideas, let me know.

So per above, I uninstalled StartAllBack and reinstalled Start11 and the behavior went away. So there's the problem and somewhere in there is a conflict. I would like to get them both running together. The main thing I need from StartAllBack is to get the Windows Explorer menu back. Start11 does not do that.

Also, with the multiple uninstall/reinstalls I've done, have I used up my Start11 licenses or do I need more? Does it track those by machine or by activation? If by machine, I'm probably fine. If by activation, I may have used them up.

BTW...if Start11 had a way to restore Windows 10 style Explorer Ribbon, then it would cover all the bases and I'd only need Start11.

I don't think Start11 has option to change Windows explorer. But there are a simple steps to change to what you need online. And the method is simple enough without need of another 3rd party apps.

For example
