Copy and Paste

I have Win 11 with current updates (KB4023057). and Start11 beta 1.12.1.

I had installed the Start11 beta 1.11.1 (I believe that was the beta, but all that info is gone now).

I wanted it because Win 11 does not allow ungrouping of items on the taskbar. That beta fixed that issue.

Also (and more important), it also fixed copy and paste between two apps that are on the taskbar which again Win 11 doesn't support (although this feature had been allowed for many years and releases).

I got the automatic update to 1.12 and guess what?  The copy and paste feature is missing. I upgraded to 1.12.1 beta but C & P still doesn't work.

I cannot find any option to make this work (like the option to ungroup in Start11).

If anything, I would like to go back to beta 1.11.1 that worked, as I use this many times a week.

To explain this clearly, I have four apps opened on the taskbar. one is Xplorer2 and there are three other apps that I will C&P from there. Usually, one would highlite  some copy items in Xplorer2 and drag them down to an icon app on the taskbar. That would make the app become active and full screen and then I could paste to it.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I have Start11 V1.21 and the steps you describe work on my system. What I did was clicked and dragged a file in Windows Explorer, dragged it to a minimize taskbar icon of MS Word with empty new Word file. Release it once the Word maximize. Release the dragged file. And the file pasted there. This don't work on your system? Maybe you can try uninstall Start11. Reboot, reinstall it, reboot again. Retest and report back.

Thanks

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

The purge and reinstall did not work on my Win 11.

downloaded and unziped the file. When I ran the bat file, the cmd screen indicated it didn't have administrative permission.

So I ran the bat file with administrative permission. What happen next was real ugly. The cmd screen kept closing and opening ever 1/4 of a second. I could open taskmanager, but it was behind the cmd screen and I couldn't close the bat file. I tried a few unusual things to get the bat file to stop. It eventually stopped.

I then uninstalled the start11 and reverted back to 1.16 beta which works for the copy and paste.

I have since read a blog which stated that Win 11 in the fall which will  support the copy and paste feature.

Anyway, I now have ungrouping on the taskbar, the start button on the left side bottom, and a cleaner start key because of start11. I am overall happy with start11, but this is the second time that an upgrade screwed  up start11 on my computer. I have turned off auto update and will keep the 1.16 beta file incase I upgrade in the future and things don't work on my aspire 5 computer.

I believe when running the purge batch file it need to run as Administrator as mention on that FAQ page. And the CMD opening and closing is normal, while the batch file is running its thing. Just let it run until it is done. Reboot after that is important.

BTW, I am on V1.21, have you try that version? But, I understand if you not interested to test it out.

Thank you,

That is interesting about the opening and closing of the cmd screen. Since it did stop, I clearly didn't do anything to stop it.

I tried 1.2 and 1.2.1 beta when I lost the C&P. Neither one worked.

I will wait until later this year to see what the so-called latest Win 11 does that is  do out in the fall.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think you mean drag and drop.

There should be no difference in that feature in 1.21 over 1.16 assuming you enabled the enhanced taskbar feature in Start11.

You drag over a taskbar button, it comes to the top and then you drag into that window.

This is my setting that I used on 1.16 beta. It should have been carried over to 1.2 and 1.2.1 beta shouldn't it?

Is there another setting that I should be using?

Sorry about the confusion of copy and paste. Yes it is drag and drop.

We have found a bug with drag and drop not bringing a window to the top.  This is resolved for the next update.
