Downloaded V4 setup and it will not allow me to store in the same place V3 was installed

So I have just upgraded to Fences 4, downloaded the installer, and ran it.

It wants to install on my C drive, my C drive is not for this stuff and I have all this on my D drive. But the installer refuses to give me an option to install over the previous version.

WHY!!!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Because, Fences need to be install in your OS drive for it to work properly.

Thanks

That is bullshit, I have had Fences for 10 years and have always had it installed on my D drive.

I should also add that Fences 4 installation says it can't find Fences.exe when trying to install.

I am telling you from what I know. You can refer to the thread below and read through the discussion by Support in there.

And I don't care what you said or what that article says, I have always for 10 years now installed it on to my D drive!!!

I am a programmer of 35+ years, and there is nothing about fences that says it HAS to be installed on my C Drive NOTHING, the only things that would be installed there would be common libraries that would be installed where they need to be installed.

My C Drive is nothing but Windows, I have over 25+ years installed everything to my D Drive and never had issues!!!!

And how do you explain that Fences 3, was installed on my D Drive and works perfect!

And how would you explain Fences 2, was installed on my D Drive and works perfect!!!

The installation of a program has got no bearing on how it runs, anyone who claims it does, doesn't know what they are talking about!!!

And as you can see by the image I have above, Fences 3 is installed on my D Drive.

If Fences 4 IS NOT GOING TO ADHERE to my choices, then I will ask for a refund, till they fix that shit!

And if you read that link you shared, it even states that the GUI version offers the user a choice of where to install it!!!!!

I have also since put in a ticket for a refund, because I will not be forced to install somewhere I don't want it to be installed.

I will stick with Fences 3, where I can install where I need to.

For security reasons Windows prevents applications gaining certain access rights unless they are installed in a secure location.  The only standard secure location that would be suitable is the program files folder.  Please note that this is not simply a case of setting access rights on the folder, it is something entirely separate.

If you have time you can bore yourself reading this https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/security-policy-settings/user-account-control-only-elevate-uiaccess-applications-that-are-installed-in-secure-locations#:~:text=This%20policy%20setting%20enforces%20the%20requirement%20that%20apps,the%20following%20directories%3A%20Program%20Files%20including%20subdirectories%20Windowssystem32%26%5D

Not all the Stardock applications require this, but as a general rule the installers now install to Program files to avoid problems after years of bug reports about some products which were being caused by this.

I believe you can tell Windows that program files is located on another drive and this seems like a good idea if you don't want things installing on Drive C as the Secure location would move with it.

It is also worth noting that Fences is tiny.

Problem is every one of my Applications needs to be installed on my D drive, I have nothing on my C drive.

I have Fences 3 installed on my D drive, so it works there, and I need Fences 4 to be able to do the same or simply put I am now asking for my refund for the Fences 4 upgrade, it is that simple!!
