Update from Version 3 to Version 4

Product Key or Email Not Being Recognized

Hello Stardock Employee, 

I had 22 years in I.T. Troubleshooting and Problem Resolution. I'm retired now

I'll explain the issue after I vent! 

I'm getting weary of this so-called and alleged "new computing environment".
The more you think you're making something better the more you're breaking it.
If  a product update doesn't effect current users of an OS then a broadcast nag screen to update
for everyone isn't neccesary.  

All the years I've been using fences I NEVER had a PROBLEM with Fences! NOT ONCE!
From XP up to today. Not even a blip of a problem.
 
I started using Stardock's Object Desktop that had Fences 1 in it (Freeware).
Then with the collapse OS/2... Stardock went to a commercial model on their software.
Guess who helped Stardock STAY IN BUSINESS by buying the commercial version. Us free users
who purchased the commercial version. 

Unfortunately, I purchased it through my business and the related email address. I went out of business in 2012
and forgot to get all my software registrations off of the Email Server.
The company I leased my servers through didn't even give me the chance to migrate all my email.
Can't pay the bill , can't access the email.  

So, I bought Fences 3 and got another account under my personal email.
And again, I never had a problem with a Stardock product from XP on until now.
 
Now for the issue.  I got a notice this morning from Fences 3 that there was an update. 
So I said sure!... to the dialog box. I let it do it's thing. I wasn't thinking that Fences would uninstall
Fences 3 and do full install of Fences 4, but it did, and then asked me to reboot. So I rebooted.
So, I logged into my Stardock account and got the Product Key again. Did you get that?
"I logged into my Stardock account" to get the product key.

I'm logged in right now as I type this!

So I entered that Product Key into "Enter Product Key" dialog box and my email address, and recieved the 
dialog box stating "An invalid product key was entered". 
The dialog box gave me another option... "Or activate with your Stardock account". So I entered my
CURRENT LOGINS and and I got another dialog box stating "Fences is not assoviated with this account"
As I'm logged into my account! 

So how does this get rectified short of me unistaling version 4 and reinstalling version 3. 
Which would have been a quick fix, and I wouldn't have spent 2 hours drafting, editing for corrections and posting this message.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

Fences4 is a new version not an update so you will need to buy a new key for 4 

if you did buy a new key for 4 then try this link https://forums.stardock.com/484254/getting-your-products-and-keys

or your account page .

AzDude, I think he is trying to explain an issue he has found where Fences 3 automatically updates to Fences 4. He wanted to update Fences 3 not upgrade and buy Fences 4. The issue he is wanting to report is that Fences 3 changed to Fences 4 without his knowledge.

StageMan, If it helps Fences 3 will not receive any more updates as Fences 4 is the current model that is being worked on at this time. The life span of a stardock product is typically in line with the main Windows OS version that is out. i.e. Fences 3 lifespan started and ended with windows 10.
