White Icons in Start 10

Hi,

We are experiencing strange issue that sometimes users that shouldn't see Icons in start menu (not group members) they get all icons like blank and they are not able to run.

Behavior is like, some refresh happens in Start10 during work and then all icons appear in user session but sometimes it works normal so users see only icons that they should. Did someone experienced this and how is it solved?

We are using Citrix Terminal server (Windows Server 2019 Build 17763 ) where we have approximately 20 users per machine so in that point all user on selected machine experience that issue.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Are you using the Start GPO templates here?

Hi,

Thanks for your quick respond :)

Yes we are using GPO templates from latest version that I could download and install.

I have disabled file search and still we have the same issue. Strange is that it works normal for some time and then all icons shows from no reason at all.

Also I can send complete .htm file of created GPO so you can look if there is some option that can cause this kind of behavior?

Best regards,

Marko

Is it possible the user has read access to the folder those shortcuts are saved in?

Start10 will refresh the list during use for various reasons and will show what it is allowed to see on the file system at that time.  By the looks of it Start10 can see those files hence them showing up.

How are you showing different shortcuts depending on logged in user?

End of IT-Alerts's quote

Can you post an entire screenshot of that Policy, please? There are many that need to be 'enabled' but other attributes there that restrict it.

Hi Neil,

We are using sysvol location where all users have permission to access (1500 users). We are using terminal server (approx. 15 users on one machine per day but issue happens for all users and also when only one user works for some time period).

We have created structure (DFS) and icons are provided to users only if user is member of specific group.

Exapmle

example of icon that is managed by security group

Example how works when user login first time

Example what happens after some period of time

If user is not member of selected group he shouldn't see that icon and that is fine in first 10-15 min. After that some kind of refresh happens and than we will get that icon blank (white) not accessible because he is not member of selected group what doesn't make sense.

Strange thing is that this works at first login normally and after some time that happens.

Is there a way to just have first refresh on logon and not later maybe?

Best Regards,

Marko
