Severe bug report: Fences disappear when main screen is smaller than auxiliary screen

Fences 4.0.0.3 on Windows 10 Home 21H2

  1. Laptop screen (Windows main screen containing start menu and task bar) @ 1920 x 1080 / 100%
  2. Auxiliary screen (plain Windows desktop) @ 2560 x 1440 / 100%
Located right from 1. screen; lower left corner aligned to 1. screen's lower right corner

As 1. is the main screen, all Fences are located there. Some at the bottom, some to the left, some to the right. When restarting the computer, all Fences move up by (1440 - 1080 = 360 pixels), the topmost Fences to the left and right disappear! And there seems no way to retrieve them again, except for disconnecting the HDMI cable to the auxiliary screen. Then it somewhat work, though some of the icons "jump" out of the involved Fences.

The only workaround I currently have: Not placing any Fence to the upper third of the main screen. Still this is not really working, as the bottom Fences will always jump up by the 360 pixels. Something severely broken here...

Best regards,
Matthias

Hi AzDude,

Sorry for getting back this late, was too occupied with ill kids and work...

I have looked at the PURGE .bat file. Looking at the code tells me it cleans up potential former installations. This is not the case here, didn't mention this but the issue occurs on a brand new machine, no dangling left-overs nor roaming settings.

Also checked the multimonitor FAQ, especially the per-screen-resolution settings. It had already been on before running into this issue. Also note I do not create fences on my auxiliary screen, just on the primary (= laptop) screen. (I had already learned that using fences on changing auxiliary screens/beamers/... is not the best idea.)

Good news though, the issue no longer occurs, even though I didn't make any change to Fences. I suspect some driver update fixed the issue. I will further observe it and get back here in case the issue reappears.

Best regards,
Matthias

Hi again,

The issue has reappeared, with a bit different results though:

The top-glued fences are OK, they are open. But the bottom-glued fences, which are supposed to roll up, just show the title bar. But the title bar is located inside the screen, no longer glued to the bottom!

Guys, there really is an issue. I think the issue appears when there is a combination of some or all of these:

  • Roll up is activate
  • Fences are both glued to top and bottom of the screen
  • (Different screen sizes are involved.)

Please try to reproduce. Then please fix.

Best regards,
Matthias
