Start11 Issue: Menu not always drawing, must click twice

At some point Start11 started to occasionally fail to draw the Windows 10 style start menu when clicking the "Start" button. This issue seems to be at random. When it fails to draw, clicking anywhere it "should" appear makes it appear for a second then close. Then clicking the "Start" button again does make it appear. So basically the "Start" button needs to be clicked multiple times to get the menu to appear.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need more information.

  1. You on Windows 10 or Windows 11? and Windows version information.
  2. Start11 version.
  3. Any other details on your system.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Here is the info you requested:

1. Windows 11 Pro, Version 21H2, Build 22000.282
2. Start 11 Version 0.94 (update via "Check Now" button)
3. AMD 3700x CPU, GTX 1060 GPU, 16GB RAM

The issue didn't seem to happen for the first week or so I installed it, it just kinda happened out of nowhere. I created a GIF that shows exactly what happens (or rather, doesn't happen).

Image 1: Default state, blue button, start menu is hidden.
Image 2: Start button clicked, purple button, start menu did not show.
Image 3: Back to default state, menu flashes for a brief second.
Image 4: Start button clicked, purple button, start menu finally shows.

Edit: I should mention I have not tested with the start menu animation disabled. I just disabled it now, and the issue is not happening so far (scratch that, it just happened). Even with the animation disabled, I am still seeing a "slight" animation where it snaps into place really fast.

This should be resolved in the RC4 build 0.95

Thanks! Been testing for a few hours with the new version and haven't seen the issue pop up so I think it's indeed fixed.

I have the same problem on two computers, both now with Start11 0.95.

My taskbar normally auto-hides. When I click on something on the desktop (an icon, the desktop itself) or activate a program window and then just move over the taskbar (not click it) and click the start button, the menu (modern style, on both PCs) appears for a split second and closes. If I click the start button for the second time the Start11 menu pops up correctly.

So it only happens if the taskbar wasn't activated by a click before.

Which OS are you using?

Windows 11 Pro 21H2 and Windows 11 Home 21H2.

Edit: I changed the style to compact modern and did some other stuff and now it works - I mirrored the settings to my second PC and it helped there too.
