Alot of people seem to be having problems moving the Rainy skin to the appropriate folder as stated on this board. Designating its own section would alleviate this problem for both enduser and designer.

Don't need it myself.... HoverDesk takes care of that.   

Leo...of course you have my support. People just do not like change I guess.

neither the HoverDesk nor the DesktopX calendars have the same functionality as Rainlendar. Rainlendar exists as a LiteStep module and standalone app since three and a half years and is doing well. personally i´d rather like to see it to be continued the same way as before than having Rainy (and not "the people who make Rainlendar") providing support for thousands of idiots who are too dumb to read the documentation.

#21 by Leo the Lion - 9/25/2003 2:33:12 PM KG........i do not wish to appear a "smart alec" but the largest library that i can find is more than you have stated. DA has around 200 Rainlendar skins.

I stand corrected.  I had looked at their "official" library, which points to skinbase.  Skinbase has 71 skins for it.  I gave up long ago trying to find anything on DA, so I never look there anymore.

I like and have used Rainlendar for years both on low end W98 boxes and new XP boxes. I've found it a trouble-free and undemanding product to use which I could not say of DX on older w98 PC's. (In my experience, that is, and I'm not suggesting that it was a fault of the program; clearly it was due to the the limitations of the older systems I used, hardware and OS wise).

At any rate, DX is undoubtedly cool, but there are reasons I may not want it running, whereas Rainlendar just sits there giving me what I want. Having one product is not always or necessarily a substitute for another.

Anyway, thanks up above for the tips regarding Rainlendar skins on DA. DA's ususally got way too much content for me to slog through but I'll see if a search will do.

(BTW, a recent WC poll showed the majority of respondents wanted bootscreens and two news articles/threads resulted from that poll. Despite the poll's results, no bootscreen library here as far as I'm aware. Not a problem for me since I didn't choose that anyway and walls can be used for bootscreens. The second runner up app I don't believe has yet gotten a library either. Rainlendar, although often requested on the messageboard, was not a choice in the poll. So polls, wiedespread use of a genre/app and popular demand alone clearly does not result in the creation of a library here if the man (and or others) behind the curtain don't want it or aren't prepared to provide more libraries for other reasons.)

I like Rainlendar and would be nice to see a single gallery for this, bisides i think it's too simple to skin and can see problems to pic it with other application skin like Sysmetrix
...and why not do a pool to see what people think?

I would like the idea of a Rainlender section. This is all about customizing and Rainlender adds that finishing touch nicely. Plus, it's a stand-alone app that has WAY more features than anything like it. You can't really compare a DX calendar to it, they are 2 different things.

I have wondered about this also, I love Rainlendar and have to search all of the other sites for them. I see some on the screenshots and think, now where did they find that one. I always have one on my desktop and was glad to see pinchecl and Don5318 start to include them with their SysMetrix skins. I don't know what Desktop X is exactly, and if I need it with WindowBlinds or if it is to complicated for me. I would also like to see it in the libraries section.

Darco you don't need it with Windowsblind but they can certainly co-exist. It *can* be really complicated, just depends on what you want to do.


I would like to see a Rainlender section as well. I just started using it a couple of weeks ago and I really love it. I'm not really fond of any of the DesktopX calendars, not saying they're no good or anything, I just liked Rain better.

So far I haven't found a real great place for Rain skins so it would be nice. I really cannot stand trying to manuever through DA. This is the best skinning site around, let's bring the Rain...

There is no doubt about most people prefering rainlendar over other calendars just look at all the screenshots posted here at WC...and the best of all that is free. I've been using it and porting my own skins for a while and would definately like to see a rainy libray on this site.

I totally agree with the idea of having a librairy for rainlendar (i'm always in search of skins uploded on other webstites and don't find always what i'm looking for)

And in another way i was going to ask the stardock team if it was possible to add applications in WinStyles theme applications list and how !!!! Rainlendar should be one ...

Why is it rainy's are included in sysmetrix packets? It started because lots of people asked for it. I myself started by adding links to other sites where a rainy section was available but ended up including them. So, to keep things neat for everybody, shouldn't that be a reason to start a section?

I think the rainlendar is another nice way to change the look of your desktop. Especially for those who don't like to run DesktopX. *myself included*

A Rainlendar section would be nice

It has gained considerable popularity amongst skinners and Desktop enhancement junkies...

not to mention the fact that it is very simple to skin and would not be as intimidating to try for newbies interested in skinning for the first time

bluesummers, some of your rainlendar skins are real quality in your screenshots and if we had a rainy section your skins would be very popular if you chose to upload them

Some more "food for thought" - How many people make and use skins for Colour Pad and Kewl Pad ???? - judging by the libraries not a lot on either side of the fence.

Just realised that my Rainlendar programme was out-of-date. Version 0.17.1.0 is out now on Rainys site. I find the best way to up date your version is to first move the skins folder out of the old programme and put it on your desktop. Then uninstall Rainlendar. After that download and install the new version of Rainlendar. Then reboot. When system is back again open the skins folder on your desktop and transfer the skins one at a time back into the new skins folder within the Rainlendar programme. Then reboot again and configure how you want it and which skin you need. Then get rid of the old skin folder into the recycle bin.

This is not a programme that takes to reinstalling very well over the top of the old version as i have found out in the past. So if you follow my advice all should go well but remember whenever you install a new skin you must always reboot before it will show in the skins tab when you try to reconfigure.

Hopefully this advice will be useful to some of you that are new to this programme or want to give it a try

Unfortunately, 409 votes out of 2 million+ users doesn't show a majority. Not enough people even bothered to vote on the poll. The current poll has only been up for a day and has already got 1/3 of the total people that voted on that poll (and, it's about the seasons...).  What that shows to the admins is that the general population likes the library the way it is.  We decided in the very beginning not to have too many libraries, so there has to be a very compelling reason to add a new one. 

As a point of perspective, WC serves around 25 terabytes of files a month (that's 25,000 gigs).  Any change to the site has to show a real need for it.  Serving more data has to show a real need for it.  Any change has to also be discussed and agreed upon by the admins.

Oh......just realised i should have said that you only need to put the skins from the old skins folder into the new skins folder all except default, shadow and candy as they are already in the new one.

KG......interesting figures......does show a certain amount of apathy towards giving admins an idea of what we would like to see section wise on this site which is rather discouraging.

If it comes down to not having more sections or size then lets get rid of Colour Pad and Kewl Pad which seem to me under utilized.

KG.........another aspect that is worth considering is the fact that all the top skinners and suites have rainlendar skins made for the suite by either the skinner themselves or by them allowing someone else to make and port a rainlendar skin for the suite which at the moment goes on another site elsewhere. This seems crazy to me as they should be here on Wincustomize the best skinning site in the world by far........which even a lot of MSS styles people are beginning to realise. The Stardock products have come on leaps and bounds over the past few years and becoming more popular Worldwide and whats more the staff at Stardock are not sitting on their butts basking in it.......they are venturing further and further to bring more and more into the OD package etc. which i can only heap praise on them for........Wincustomize is part of this success story and one of the reasons for this is the way you and your fellow admins look after this site plus lets not forget the marvellous people who are members here.......what a team........

Anyway lets get back on track.....KG my last point re the top skinners and suites surely makes a very good case for a Rainlendar section.
