[DIGITALYCHEE] Groupy Technical Issue

couldn't merge tabs normally

Hi there,

Recently we received a technical problem when he merge tabs through Groupy, however, it didn't work.

Groupy is installed in default location.

Strangely enough, the softward only works when Groupy is set to "Group only when Shift is pressed", and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't; some software can be grouped and some can't, with completely random results.

He already tried a lot of solutions:

1. turn off secure software;

2. download and run groupyPurge.bat, restart and reinstall Groupy;

however, the problem same still.

His computer has a lot of professional software installed and is not allowed to try a clean start or create a new user.

Could you please check and give another solution to solve this problem?

Groupy version: 1.49.1

Windows version: Windows 10 20H2

Thanks for your help and looking forward to your reply.

Best regards,

DIGITALYCHEE

Hi,

He has installed many professional softwares and he wants the OS to be “stable”, so he doesn't want to upgrade Windows for fear that the Windows update may cause other issues. Also, Windows 10 20H2 is not That out of date, so he doubts whether the upgrade would solve the issue.

Any other suggestions?

(Additional info provided by the user if it helps you diagnose the problem: he logs in Windows as an Administrator account. Unfortunately he doesn't want to creat a new local user to see if the account type affects Groupy)

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Some apps will not group if they have titlebars that are not Windows standard (some Adobe apps come to mind). For any tests, one should start with just Windows native apps (Notepad, Windows Explorer, etc).

One should not expect Groupy to take a group and add it to a single instance of an app.  For example, one should not expect a group of Windows Explorer and Notepad to be able to be draged over a single instance of something else and have it group - one would need to move the single app to the group.

As shown, I have also shown it to be helpful (especially when using a grouping modifier like Shift) to enable 'Use whole window for group target...'
