Connect to external computer

Good evening. 

I purchased the Multiplicity KVM Pro and I am trying to connect to my mother's computer. I can "seamless" connect to my other PC at home.  I purchased the pro version because I was under the impression I can connect to remote computers, not on my network. 

I try to connect to my mother's computer in another state through seamless and realized it is the wrong connection. 

I try to use an IP address to connect to my mother's computer through KVM and it will not connect. 

I have done the following:

-Turned off the McAfee firewall.

-Ensured her connection was a  private connection. 

-I ensured that KVM mode was checked

I am not sure where else to go from here.  

Please advise as to a resolution. I want to use this to be able to assist my mother from long distance. Chrome Remote Desktop works fine but it can be finicky, and it does not allow me to perform certain actions. I do understand why.
