What does an error message about a bad gateway mean?

I know this is way off-topic, but what does this message mean? My E-mail server has been unavailable all day and now I get this message...

Bad Gateway
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
accel: connect to 127.0.0.1:8080 failed while processing My email address URL

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Should I worry a lot, or wait?

The north-east US, and parts of Canada, are suffering from what has been described as the worst power outage in US history. Our data centre has been hit by this.

Although our data centre has diesel backup generators, all access to the centre is down. This may be due to upstream router power failures - we are still investigating the exact cause. We don't yet know when the data centre will be available. Quotes on CNN suggest that power should be back by morning.
