Groupy stopped working

yesterday groupy stopped working for no apparent reason and without any changes to the system as im aware (no windows updates or new softwares installed)

when i try to enable it again i get the following error :

The Groupy service does not appear to be running. Please reinstall Stardock Groupy.

Of course reinstalling it did not make the situation any better, now it does not even start any longer...

also when i tried to start the sgroupy service directly i get this cryptic error.

so how do i fix this mess?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.  Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/488142/groupy-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

This is typically caused by a program incorrectly creating a file called program on drive C.

An example of info on this :

https://bobcares.com/blog/error-193-0xc1-service-fails-to-start/#:~:text=Main%20causes%20of%20the%20Error%20193%200xc1&text=The%20error%20occurs%20when%20there,program%20verifies%20the%20following%20paths.

The other possibility would be the GroupySrv.exe file is missing from the install directory.  This would probably be caused by a defective antivirus product.

turns out there was a file called Program in the system drive (c:\Program) which caused this issue. It turns out the installation of the xright software for a display calibration device: https://www.xrite.com/categories/calibration-profiling/i1display-pro

after removing this Program file which has some information about the windows icc (color profiles) which i do not use since i do manual calibration, groupy is working again.

@neil thanks a lot for the provided link to fix this!
