Big Bug with downloaded Cursor

Hi together,

I purchased CursorFX today via Steam and bought one animated Cursor-Pack called VolitionFX.

So far it worked, but when I started the game "Rust" and opened my in-game-inventory I experienced brutal lags. I changed the cursor to another theme and it worked properly again. I watched the cpu usage while using the volitionFX theme and it was roundabout 6%, which is way too high in my opinion. I rebooted my pc, reinstalled CursorFX and rebooted again. Nothing worked, everytime I use VolitionFX, I experience too much lag, even in windows itself.

I wanted to delete the pack, but it won't go away. I deleted the pack in the hard disc directory, it is still there, even though it's not in the list in the program. I tried to activate another theme, but it always jumps back to the VolitionFX-pack.

As you can see, the VolitionFX-Pack isn't there any more, but the mouse cursor is still activated. I can't even click on another pack, it won't change. I only can click at Standard on the top of the list, that works. Every other pack activates the VolitionFX.

Please help.

Sincerely, Doc.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Try this.

1) Set the cursor back to default, top of the list.

2) Close CursorFX : Taskbar Tray > right click on CursorFX icons there and close it.

3) Delete the preview folder -> \Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\Preview

4) Restart CursorFX, CursorFX will then rebuild your Preview folders from all your install Cursors. It will take sometimes if you have a very large collection of Cursors. Once it is done, your preview list will be repopulated and you can try to apply any theme to test it.

Try it and report back.

No, didn't work. I did it exactly as you said. Twice! Every time I click on another theme and then apply, it jumps to that VolitionFX-Pack

I even deleted all themes, every time I start up CursorFX it looks like this:

As soon as I change to windows standard (that works for the moment) and restart CursorFX, it gets resetted to this screen as shown.

Try the purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here : https://forums.stardock.com/485856/cursorfx-support-faq#reinstalling

Just to be sure, download the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purge, reinstall CursorFX, reboot again. Retest and report back.

Okay,

thanks a lot. Did the whole purge thing twice since the first time obviously didn't work. When I reinstalled CursorFX and started it, it always instantly crashed. Now it works and everything seems fine so far.

I didn't install the VolitionFX-pack yet, shall I give it a try now, since it costed quite some money?

I just tried the Volition FX cursor on my system. It work normally, but I have not test it for long.I would suggest for you to re-download it and try again.

One issue that CursorFX have, which is currently be look at by Support and Dev team, it have trouble listing the very last cursorpack. So initially Volition is not listed on my system when I install it. But, if I go to \Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes\ the Volition FX pack is there. If this happen in your system too, the workaround for it is just copy and paste any ".cursorFX" style and rename it to something like "Zzzlast.cursorFX" which should be the last one in there and will never show up in your listing. And that will make the Volition FX show up in your listing.

BTW, for you initial issue, did you installed your CursorFX in a location other than default C: drive? If you did please install in its default location. I notice a lot of Stardock's software don't like to be installed in other than default location.

Actually, I installed CursorFX on my 3rd SSD called G: at first. Now, after purging it, I changed the install directory to F: , now it works at least for the moment. I will give the ViolitionFX a try right now and I will give a feedback in a couple of minutes. But first, I will reinstall it to C: , like you advised.

Oh by the way, now, CursorFX uses approx 1,1 to 1,7% CPU. When I had those bad issues with the mentioned pack, it jumped to a 6% to 7%. Just sayin'

Okay, installed the pack, I had the same issue with not seeing it in the list. So I renamed it and it is there. I activated it, so far so good, but in the game "rust", while using my inventory (when the mouse cursor is shown), it lags like hell again. But at least I am able to change it to any other cursor theme (even the animated ones), they all work perfectly everywhere. It's quite strange, but I think it has something to do with the unity-engine or the way, the game is programmed. Well, no ViolitionFX-pack for me then, unfortunately. Is it possible to get a refund for the pack?

Yes, I notice that too. I guess that is on the Cursor style itself. If there is a lot of animation than there will more load on the CPU.

I agree with everything Except if you start giving refunds , ANYONE can claim there is a problem, KEEP the skin AND get the money back... SURELY this can't be acceptable.

I am sorry, but I thought its is normal for user to get refund if they are not satisfied with a product. Personally, I have some refunds get deducted from my WB masterskins sales over the years. But as a normal SOP, I have forwarded your questions/problems/concern to the Stardock Support team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.

Yes, that applies for products that are Hardware, can't be Copied and is returned to the store...

-Really?!<_<

-Isn't that why we have Moderation...so it is checked it's working as it should so whatever problems the user might have would be on THEIR end and not a faulty skin???

To the OP, see if disabling shadows in CFX improves performance:

I don't care anymore. Keep your money. I didn't want to make people argue about a cursor theme. I stated my problems, my problems are still there, except CursorFX itself works fine now, thanks to the help of basj.

I can't activate the ViolitionFX-pack but keep the money, it's fine.

Oh, by the way, my hardware:

Core i7-8700K watercooled
Geforce GTX 1080TI Asus Strix with 11 GB Ram
32 GB RAM
500 GB M.2 SSD
2 x 256 GB SSD

For sure, the problems are on my side......

@neone6: you create some fantastic art, I am 100% serious. If you felt offended, I'm sorry.

EDIT: HOOOOORAYYYY, the shadows caused the problems. I disabled them like I was adviced to and now everything works fine with the theme :)

I still don't get why this is the only theme that causes these problems while activating the shadows, but fine.
