Thx for this information.

However with my computer skills if I tried to modify a file I would most likely crash the WWW before I figured out the solution I seek.

I was hoping that there were settings in the options menu that I could use.

I purchased GC III as a founder but only recently retried the game as the frequent changes made it difficult to keep up with. 

When I did I found I liked all the changes from GC II except the two graphic changes mention in my OP. The brightness and similarity in looks of the background and sensor zone would make great back drops for a battle animation IMHO are a poor choice for a game main screen.

Had not gone there as I was looking for an answer in the graphics options you did get me to look 

Will try this and see if it does the trick.

Edit2: Worked for the background but sensor radius still blends in with the background.

Again thanks I guess at this time I am stuck with graphics as is. 

My play style is the reason this is a problem as I systematically explore the map manually so need to see that the route I am following is strait and the "Starfield" graphic is too bright for me to see this. 

Edit: Turns out a large part of my problem is caused by the ambient lighting hitting my laptop's screen. If the room is dim I can see better, not great just need to squint less.
