Is this Groupy's limitations?

Hello!

Last night I went ahead and bought Groupy. I've been using Fences for a long while now and have been incredibly satisfied, so I decided I'd get Groupy now as well.

However, as I installed it, restarted my computer and all, I noticed it doesn't seem to work on a lot of programs. In fact, it's only working in explorer and command prompt so far.

I've tried the following programs:

  • Vivaldi (my default browser)
  • The FreeOffice programs (my default Office-lookalike)
  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 AND CS6
  • Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Edge
  • Visual Studio Code

And many more, none of which worked either.

Does Groupy not support any of these programs and am I one unlucky person or is there a problem from my part? I really hope it's the latter.

Using Windows 10 1903.

Thank you very much!

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I can group some of the Software you listed. Some of it I don't have on my system, hence I can't verify it. For example, Vivaldi,Firefox,Chrome,Edge, I can group. I have LibreOffice and OpenOffice work on my system.

Need to know more. When you said it don't work. Could you please explain what is the problem? Can't group at all or can group but can't save the group?

Groupy can group most applications on your system.

I think the issue is one of misunderstanding though.

By default groupy adds tabs to explorer, command prompts and some other apps (MS office).  It does not physically add tabs for windows which are not tabbed in other apps.  We only add them to those because customers have often wanted to create a new tab in those apps quickly.

However you can group apps by dragging them together.  You simply drag a window over other windows and after a short pause it will offer to group them.  Once an app is grouped it will have tabs you can also use the … drop down menu to tell Groupy to always show tabs for a given application if you wish.  You may also need to enable the option from the menu to show the add new tab button.

I did exactly that! I tried dragging them together but nothing seems to happen no matter how long I wait.

However, I just realised that I may need to turn on visual effects. I turned live content dragging back on and it seems to be working now. It's quite too bad that you can't use it while that's turned off but I'm fine with that. : )
