I messing around with the tabs in file explorer and accidentally clicked on don't use tabs for this type or something like that and now I can't figure out how to bring them back.

Sorry to hear you are having issues. You just need to regroup two Explorer together. Just move two explorer on top each other until the "Group this window and the dragged window", than release the mouse.
Once its group you can than re-tick that "Always show tabs for this type of window"
