everything works except getting mouse to other computer

I have 2 computers and everything prior to today generally works with occasional reboots to correct problems

Today, the control panel says the computers are connected and sound from PC#2 (secondary) is playing on PC#1 (primary) but I cannot get the mouse to move from primary pc to secondary PC

I tried reboots, changing password, deleting and reconnecting the PC, switching from pc name to IP address and the sound is still there and control panel says the PC is connected but I cannot get the mouse to jump to the other screen unless... (discovered by accident) I get a Windows administrator prompt to come up on the primary PC (pc #1) (like when uninstalling some software or opening an administrator CMD prompt) then the mouse goes to the other window while that prompt is up.

No software or updates installed today.  Thoughts?

Both computers are Windows 10 Pro, one has Sophos Home AV, other has Kaspersky AV (both AV installed more than a month ago)
