erk - my wallpaper quality

I was dicking around with font smoothing settings etc this morning (not sure if it has to do with the problem, though). Anyway, I've noticed that now when I stretch my wallpapers, they look horribly chunky, I've checked my resolution, colors, etc, but I can't find anything about desktop quality. Windows is doing something to my wallpapers, the images look fine when they're not used as backgrounds, and if I quit explorer, it magicly fixes itself.

Any suggestions? I'd rather not restart, cause I spent an hour installing like 5 sims expansion packs, lol, but I will, as a last resort, just looking to see if anybody had any brilliant solutions.

Check what colour depth you have on your screen....if you just installed game 'bits' it's possible that the colour depth/res has been altered...

Ack! I did a system restore and that Still didn't help. When the computer reboots, it will be fine. Explorer loads, a couple programs open, then Bam! The whole thing goes crappy. I closed a number of processes, and the only one that fixes it is explorer.

Now I really need help
