Bug with Groupy and Excel Spreadsheets

To Whom It May Concern:

I am having issues with groupy and Excel.  Sometimes it freezes Excel, sometimes I’ll be in one spreadsheet, and when I type data in a cell, it will sometimes switch over to a different Excel spreadsheet.  Strange.

Just thought someone should know.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Guys,

I am having the same problem as "Seth334" above - except that I don't seem to be getting the freezing he mentions. I am only using Groupy with Excel so I cannot comment on other applications.

I am running Windows 10 and Office 2016 (64 Bit). (Both fully updated although I have not applied the latest Windows 10 patch which was withdrawn). Groupy is Ver 1.17.

My problem occurs when working in Groupy with Excel with more than one worksheet open. Usually the worksheets are in different workbooks.

About 50% of the time when I enter data into a cell on say sheet one of a workbook, Groupy switches to one of the other open sheets in another workbook and enters the info into that sheet's cell and not the original input sheet's cell. In other words, the data is entered into the correct cell address but in the incorrect worksheet. This happens irrespective of whether I use the "enter" key or "arrow keys" to enter the data.

Further to "basj" questions above. The files are small, with very small amounts of data and usually only one or two worksheets in the books, there are no add-ons and there are no Macros in use.

I have had the problem for some time, but it is now starting to be an irritation and I would like to try and get it sorted out.

Please could someone assist.

Many thanks

As a side note. After some digging on the problem. I found this thread. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/excel-skips-to-another-workbook-for-no-apparent/272ccfbf-5aca-43f4-8e8f-c55a38043a0e

I think the problem might not be with Groupy at all. Just hickups with multiple worksheet opens for Excel.

Thank you,

With due respect, Basj, this is a cop-out. This exact problem happens to me, but only when I combine 2 Excel windows using Groupy. In fact, it does not happen even when Groupy is running--unless I group 2 Excel windows.

I am using Groupy 1.1.8, Excel 2016 and Windows 8.1.

Alex, it's not a cop-out, it's an observation with the known facts.

We have tried to reproduce what the very few of you have seen - thus far, we cannot.  What we cannot include in our tests is any plug / add-ins you may be using.  Are you, and if so, what ones?

For my part, I am not using any add-ins for Excel, and I am running Tiles, Fences, Bins and Groupy.

Also, please note that this problem does not occur every time the user makes an entry in Excel.

To replicate the bug, I suggest that you create these conditions, and then use Excel over the course of a day. A precondition in my case is having 2 workbooks open & *grouped* using Groupy.

I must also add that I simply love Stardock products. I very much appreciate the functionality & joy you guys add to Windows. So, a big thank you to everyone who is part of Stardock.

Hi sdRohan,

Unfortunately it is a problem with Groupy. I have a clean install of Office 2016 and the latest Windows 10 professional image and only when I installed Groupy did I start noticing freezes. Excel sheets become unresponsive, most notably when copying text and the issues go away when Group is uninstalled. Other weird issues include excel jumping around the screen as if trying to figure out if it should be maximized, minimized, or another size. With Excel (and even Outlook) some windows can become inaccessible even when hovering over them on the taskbar. Coloring on my separate Windows 7 machine is also inconsistent with that operating systems aero theme, but I presume the most work was carried out on the interface for Windows 10. I'm happy to help with any log files requested because it's an awesome program.

David.

That is not unique to Office apps, pairing apps that may have been on other monitors, and in other sized states (windowed, max), can have odd effects in groupy when cycling through them (they snap to the monitor one app was on when the group is on another, etc).

That is known and being looked at.
