Spam, Spam, Spam, Spam, lovely Spam, lovely Spam

Why is it that we call Spam... Spam?

all those junk e-mails do not taste like Spam (or does it?) so where do you think the name came from?

Send Phenomenal Amounts of Mail?

(don't know if link will work... from NYTIMES )

So where do you think why the word Spam is used?

(And what's up with spell check changing the word internet and capitalizing the letter 'i' to 'I'? What does that mean?)

Spam is that nasty canned meat that you can buy at the market. Here's the homepage of if: http://www.spam.com
Monty Python then made a skit about it, in which in a cafe, all they have to offer are variations of meals made from spam. You can read the skit here: http://www.detritus.org/spam/skit.html
You can read more about how the word spam became synomomous for unwanted internet junk here: http://www.templetons.com/brad/spamterm.html
