Windows update screwed us! Help needed fast!

Last night, Windows did an update and I have a report due out tonight. Since we are running Windows 10, I assumed our last load from Stardock was Start10. Anyway, the Start desktop was gone.  I couldn't find Start10 on the machine, so paid and downloaded Start10.  When I activated it, my machine is now unusable.  I will see the background picture for a second or two, then the desktop goes blank for a second or so, then reloads.  The cycle never stops.  I can use control-alt-delete to do a restart, but that's it.  I can't get any menus up, I can't search for anything, I can't revert.  Absolutely stuck.  Can someone please help?  Thanks

Oh, and it appears Start8 and Start10 are both running.  When I hit ctrl-alt-del, the desktop goes away and the cycling stops.  So, I can also then get to the task list...

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

What version of Windows are you now running ... version/batch ?

 " Purge " to uninstall https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling

Reboot and see if windows is now OK ..

report back here for next step ..

Thanks, AzDude. Was able to uninstall Start8 and Start10 (geez) - both were running.  Stable for now, but W10 screen crap.  Won't reinstall until my report is done. Will keep you posted.  Thanks again.

Thanks for your patience. I'm about out of mine. Sorry. Ok, so however it happened, my wife's laptop is running Windows 10, but was still running Start8 for a while.  Then, we lost the Start8 screens. I figured we needed to go to Start10, so I paid and downloaded Start10 and activated it. That's when it went nuts, and that is now history.  I was finally able to get a stable enough screen to delete both Start8 and Start10, which were both running. After deleting both, I redownloaded and reactivated Start10, which now appears to be running. But...

We still do not have her desktop set up.  For one thing, when the machine boots, it goes to the standard W10 screen. Clicking the windows button brings up the Start10 menu properly, so I know it is running. But I would like the desktop to come up to her original desktop folder, which is still in there.  Feels like we are almost there, but not yet. Perhaps simple stuff, but it is frustrating us.  I really appreciate your help to get this right.

It sounds like you have enabled tablet mode in Windows.  This would make it startup and show the Windows 10 fullscreen menu and never show the desktop folder.
