looking for help with trayserver.exe and windowsXP

following on from my hard drive dying last saturday, i now have a nice new hard drive in my machine.

since it is new, it started out blank.

i have installed winXP and component manager.
via component manager, i have installed ObjectBar.

however, component manager has not installed trayserver >

i have retrieved a copy of trayserver.exe, but could some kind person please tell me the registry key i need to create so that trayserver runs at the correct point in time?

and yes, i have emailed stardock support, but i was hoping to get a fast response to the reg key question here, so i can get ObjectBar working soonest.

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

1A:Stardock TrayMonitor

Reg Value is the path to the file.

*sigh*
in my regedit, there is no base section HKLM

does the base key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

sound right according to your registry?

thanks for helping

/me wanders off to play in regedit

Sorry...HKLM is abreviation for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

Hope you get it working OK.

ah, thats what i guessed
the good news is it is now picking up tray icons!

the more mysterious news is that it is missing "keyboard launchpad" and "msn messenger" icons.

however, this is good enough for now

Be sure the 1A: is before the name 1A:Stardock TrayMonitor

I think that is what makes it load before your other startup items so it can pick up all the icons.

i have:
name = 1A:Stardock TrayMonitor
value = "D:\program files\common files\Stardock\TrayServer.exe"

strange.

well, after a couple more reboots, the only system tray icon that is playing hide and seak is MSN messenger. sometimes it is there, sometimes it isnt. i can live with that

so, once more, many thanks jebland

without your help i would have had to wait until today to get the registry key from my work machine.

np...glad I could help. I don't know what could be the problem with Messenger, I don't use it. Maybe tech support can sort it out for you.

I think that MSN Messenger is loading ahead of TrayServer. I have a new Dell computer and I had a lot of trouble with MSN Messenger coming up whenever I accessed Outlook Express. Even after disabling it, it appeared in the system tray with a red x on it. I finally did a search & destroy in the registry to get rid of it, but I don't remember now where the startup was.

if you are running winXP Pro you can use start menu -> run "gpedit.msc" to set msn messenger to never load, which is how i normally have it set. i just havent got that far yet
