switches itself off

Every time I start windowFX, the on/off switch, on the home page, is set to off. Switch it to on and 10 seconds later it switches itself off.

It has been doing this for several days now. It is updated and I have switched the PC off a few times.

Any ideas how I can cure this so that it is usable again?

My OS is win10. I've tried setting the compatability settings to Win 8 but no change.
