Do you believe in psychics?

Do you believe in psychics?

I’ll try to keep this pithy. Do you believe in psychics?

I still have my VERY distinct doubts…

I’m not saying I don’t believe that people can have a certain empathic/perception with people, and with family members you know them so well you have an almost ‘given’ predilection towards knowing what your loved one is thinking just by ‘basic instincts’ such as body-language, facial expressions, pupil contraction and expansion etc. etc. etc. I know when the phone is going to ring about a minute before it rings and my daughter giggles and teases me, I’ve often known when something bad was about to happen but that doesn’t exactly make me a psychic. If I was a psychic, I’d get a frickin’ lottery number and win…and I’d bet at all the casinos and WIN and I sure as heck wouldn’t take advantage of people who are grieving! ?

BUT, all that aside…

The people like “John Edwards” and “Sylvia Browne” etc. really give me pause and make me a bit weary and sad for the people that soak that stuff in like a sponge and especially the grieving parents of dead or missing children. I guess that infuriates me a bit!

I think the only way these people go to sleep at night is that they convince themselves they’ve ‘comforted’ the people who have lost someone but I just feel very cynical about stuff like that without legit proof.

Just some ‘stuff’ on both ‘psychics’ online:
John Edwards-

And as far as Sylvia Brown is concerned-

I dunno, but to me, ANYONE who makes $$$ for supposed “psychic abilities” is a fraud in my book.

Hmm Lady Akasha Tarot cards and them boards (I forget what you call them) the ones you put your hands on them and the spirits move your hands to an letter or answer (I tried one w/ some friends when I was a kid) scared the Hell right out of me!

anyways back to this psychic thingy... me hyjacks Angela's thread and goes alil off topic maybe w/ my uncle again cuz this is so wierd to me.

One of the many weird things that happened between my uncle and me during the course of his passing was this and this was just one incident...

When he was passing though he was closer w/ my older sister and my mother (his sister) while here in Cali, he called me constantly during his passing and I "Hated it!" cuz it was my first time experiencing death w/ a family member and I felt like I was dying along w/ him or something...

well anyways he was a Heroine addict all his life and a complete mess, wonderful human being when clean but a monster when on Drugs he moved out to Cali to try to change cuz my mom and his other brother are here (my other uncle) but he only stayed clean a short time and found other drugs here on this side of the coast so nothing happened there which let him to Hepatitis, Cirrhosis of the liver, which in turn then turned into Cancerous tumors...

He went back and forth to hospitals over and over so much towards the end and since the Doctors never can tell "when exactly" a person is going to die they said "It could be a month it could be several months it could be a year"

he was back and forth at the hospital so many times we started to not take his visits to them as his actual last thinking oh he will be released back home and prob die at home in hospice care, but his very last visit to the hospital I remember very well cuz "I" knew it was his last and I "knew" he was dying when everyone thought he was going to be released and "they" were at the hospital w/ him I was not!

I remember being at my mom's house cuz my mom was at her sisters in Florida and she did not expect my uncle to die during her being away for a few days cuz she thought he had "months if not a year left" and my sister called me at my moms house and said my uncle was back at the hospital yet again and she just dropped him and my Grandmother (his mother) was w/ him and he prob will be released but she wanted to let me know he was back yet again at the hospital, I felt him call me through the call though he never got on the phone he was in the hospital she was calling me from but no where near the phone, I told her please come pick me up I have no car to get to the hospital but he is going to die and he wants me there, (course she thought I was nuts) but came to pick me up

to make a long story short my sister freaked by me stayed outside the hospital and just dropped me off at the entrance and said she would come back in an hour to pick me up (she is a chicken regarding death, so she played it safe) I ran up to his room when I got there he was taking his last breath, he spoke to me w/ no words and I spoke to him w/ words I remember the nurse said he was gone, then I did not even see my Grandmother (his mother) behind me cuz it happen so fast, He (my uncle spoke to me but not in words while I was staring at what I thought was a dead body now, and he said turn around and grab my mom she is going to faint and take care of her for me) I turned around and if I did not my Grandmother would have hit the floor that second (and I did not even see her when I ran in the room)

freaky and something I will never understand any of it and that is just one small thing that happened during my uncles passing...

was it psyhic, spiritual what in the world was that I want to know

Doreen...

WOW!Ummmm that is some experience. I promised I was not going to write another full page, I could go on and on about such subjects but I'll be good. Is it physic is spiritual? Is it possible that it is both, that it is intertwined? A meeting of the souls rather than the being to being? I hate to say the 'psychic' because I again most people relate that to 'super being' gifts, and I don't believe in such a thing. Could it be you're uncle wanted you because he knew you "could hear him?"

My godsisters aunt just crossed a couple of months ago, she died horriblyl and painfully. She had stomach cancer, one day we find out she had it, 4 weeks later she passed!I was not close to the woman really. Matter of factly the last couple of years we were actually rarely even in the copany of one another, bottom line the woman didn't care for me that much. Yet the day of the funeral, there we are during service, listening to the pastor do his thing, when in the corner of my eye I saw a flash of something. I looked over...nothing. I felt something behind me... I look back ...nothing. The hairs on my flesh are standing straight up and I'm very uncomfortable! A couple of minutes later, I look to my right, at the other side of the room I saw this woman, that looked exactly like her, hands folded in front of her like she always had them. A two piece pinkish suit on just like her favorite suit. She was walking around, observing everyone...then she was gone.
It was one of the freakiest things I've ever experienced.
But I'll be quiet now, cuz people will think I'm crazier than they originally thought I was.

By the by, OUIJA boards is what you were talking about...you couldn't pay me to touch one of those things!!!!!!!!! I did that when I was a kid a couple of times, and I will NEVER do it again. IF there are spirits out there...I'm sure as hell not inviting them over!

My daughter Katie, who is a real wit, announced one day that she could read minds. I bit and said , "OK, what am I thinking right now?" Without missing a beat she answered, "You're thinking that I'm not a mindreader."

The world is full of "hucksters". The psychic hotlines are a great example of that. That doesn't mean there isn't something real in psychic occurences. Anyone that has experienced it (like Doreen) knows that we don't have an explanation for everything humans experience. It's a shame that there is so much shuck and jive in religious and spiritual matters but that shouldn't close your mind to the potential of expanding your conciousness or accepting as real things you experience but cannot explain. Life is always trying to teach us something and little glimpses of a grander reality are like illustrations in a textbook, they give us an image to ponder which might lead to learning something...

btw - Doreen, mental telepathy is known to exist. The ability to converse without speaking (or even being in the same room) happens to a lot of people but rarely with any control over it. These type of experiences are probably most common when the death of a relative is involved. As are visions of the deceased, like Lady Akasha described. Most native religions and Budhism believe a deceased spirit lingers in the area for several days before heading off to its next life.

In South America there's an Indian tribe that takes a drug called Yage to enhance their telepathic abilities so they can communicate over great distances. The drug comes from a vine called "Telepathine" and like most mind-altering drugs, it's a deadly toxin if not used right. The name of the plant though says a lot about the research into its properties.

Definitly believe in ESP/psi. Am a card reader myself. Some ppl I think have the wrong impression about the cards tho, at least compared to how I see em. The cards are not in and of themselves able to tell anything they are only a tool to help open/focus the mind.

That there are fakes out there is without question usually those are the ones in the Limelight. Most true talents tend to prefeer some privacy has been my experience.

LadyK, I think the stuff you referenced is more about being open and willing to explore and be open to things spiritually etc. and that is a much different scenario. It's the people who try to make a profit and usually from people in very desperate situations that I take umbrage to. Admittedly I’ve dabbled with tarot myself. My own personal beliefs are all over the place and I've always kept an open mind to change my conclusions about most anything.

Doreen, you’re story is not unfamiliar to me…I have many friends as well as myself that have experienced certain unexplainable phenomenon, some things that still spook me a bit to remember…things that people would probably laugh at if I were to go into great detail (near death experiences etc.). And I’ll be more apt to readily believe someone like you or LadyK and others speaking of your own personal experiences out of a want for sharing rather than for profit. Believing people who make these claims for fame and fortune and to take advantage of those who are in mourning or who are sick and dying is incomprehensible to me.

JCG, that story about your daughter is too cute! Kids say the darndest things!

-And, DavidK, I agree.

/me goes off in search of that wascawwy Easter Bunny who keeps robbing her chocolate! Pesky wabbit!

JCG... I love that story about your daughter. That is priceless!

And I too agree with you shmoopy! It is sick and lower than low to do that to people. People like that should simply not be allowed to practice at all or breathe for that matter. But at the same time, some not all, there is no one golden rule for all scenario's. But if a person goes to a reader and we are not talking about taking advantage of a grieving person and not a life and death situation. But the VERY common, "What's happening in my life" reading, they need to use their intellect and intuition. We all have it. use it. If the reader says oh you're spouse is having affairs left and right, and you know in your heart of hearts it is impossible--Get up, walk away, tell them their full of crap, and don't pay a red cent!I'm not a psychic but I can always 'feel' when a reader is full of hot air.
Now the ones that take advantage of the grieving widow, they just need to be hogtied and tortured, that's sick. yeah I have a disturbed side, big shock,eh? NOT.

No.

But I do think instinct and logic has a key part in what is called a psychic.
