Hallo everybody! I found a new software for modifing the appearance of Windows XP(WinDresser)

it´s more or less the same as StyleXP. rather more as it comes with some real software (the theme editor) and supports multiple languages.

/me prefers text and resource editors though (never trust a UI)

i hacked the dll myself, you never know what you get on the net
i haven´t heard reports of infected uxtheme.dlls though, the only funny thing is when people distribute modified shell32.dlls (contains a lot of icons, but also many strings that turn your interface into an other language ).

wow... and to think to hack uxtheme.dll is about 3 lines with a hex editor...

I must say those screenshots show rather ugly skins. Not an impressive selling strategy for a GUI enhancer.

I have to admit those skins don't look to good. But a screen shot would be better.

I do wonder what is skins, where is the community who skins for it, and will it ever support windows 9x platforms (of which I beleieve most people on the planet have... or maybe that is not important because skinning seems more of an XP thing)

If it is still just going into the dll flie I am not sure if that is cool (but its a start).

moshi speaking of copy rights does this not violate your end user license and the authors copy right?

Gee, why do I get the feeling the board is being spammed on behalf of this product? At least 2 or 3 ID's suddenly just today (by coinkidinky) recommending this app on this thread and others?

Again, the screenshots don't look in the least appealing. If someone wants to promote a program to make appealing GUI's they should have screenshots that don't look likb Babya 3.2.

don´t think copyright is an issue for me here as i do not distribute anything but distributing those files is probably illegal.

violating the EULA? pretty sure. i haven´t read it though, have you?

Also, promoting that program here is kinda like going into a Lexus showroom and trying to steer customers to your cousin Otto's Yugo dealership. (Or should that be a Volga?)

I'm pretty certain that modifying said dll is indeed a violation of the end user license... except of coarse Linux or other open source products then all you need to do is offer your modifications to others... GPL

The screenshot is very unimpressive. To the point that the idea of 'trying' it never crossed my mind.

Hacking a system dll which is part of the Windows OS product would violate the EULA....Reverse engineering or decompiling is prohibited.
Distribution of the result or not is immaterial.
I'm sure the EULA is accessible on Microsoft.com for all to read and be confused by...

i am definately not going to read that monster of a license. i rather mail MS and admit i changed some icons and ask them if it´s ok for me to use Windows or if i should switch to an other OS.

No thanks. I will stick to my stardock products.

It's a whole lot better than anything I could do... but compared to windowblinds (even styleXP) I see nothing that would convince anyone to switch.
