How to scan in broader subnet or manually add a secondary PC by IP?

Hi,

So I just found out my multiplicity was lagging because my secondary PC (a laptop) was using the wifi connection in stead of the ethernet connection that's also plugged in. Now I'm trying to get it to work over ethernet, but strangely enough, they two computers are on different subnets, so my primary PC doesn't find my secondary PC (laptop).

My work PC is on 10.2.2.x
whereas my laptop is on 10.2.3.x

My primary work PC however only searches on the 10.2.2. subnet.
Adding my laptop by computer name seems to work (it asks me for a passcode) but then fails to connect properly still.

Is there any way of connecting these two computers (it used to work..)?
Can my primary PC scan for computers on the 10.2.3.x also? Or can I maybe add my laptop by IP manually?
I am able to ping my secondary PC from my primary.
Network Type is set to Home (Private) and firewall is turned off for testing purposes.

UPDATE: strangely enough, when I turn things around (ie. make my laptop the primary PC and my work PC secondary), they still don't find eachother (because laptop is looking in 10.2.3.x and PC is located in 10.2.2.x) but I am able to add my work PC manually by entering the name of the PC. This did not work when my Work-PC is the primary computer. Any idea why?
