i´d say the one at WC is a rip. check the preview screenshot, it says "Steven". the guy that submitted it at dA has Steven Cartwright as real name, the guy at WC is called Martin Archer.

in the end both are rips of course, as this design is copyrighted by Paramount Pictures.

Martin Fletcher, but still far away from Steven

I saw the name to. Just covering my butt just incase it wasn't a rip.

I actually think Steven created the graphic hisself. So all graphics are made by him. Just the style is the movie's.

it´s still theft. do you think Paramount would allow a tv series that uses "LCARS style, self created" graphics? definately not.
but they won´t care about an XP logon screen i guess.

could be the beginning of a long debate on "fair use" and "grey area". let´s hope the rip at WC get´s removed and that´s it.

'Fair use" is:

referring to or sampling a portion of a work for a journalistic, educational, or satirical piece. "Incidental Inclusion" is also considered fair use, so news anchors who are reporting live won't be sued when a pepsi truck rolls past. That is the community reasoning behind screenshots at present, i think.

The works posted above here wouldn't fall under any description of 'fair use', imho. This is just one work being derived from another.

The one here has been removed....because it appears identical to the Devart one.

Naturally it's a popular theme....a lot of people create and use Trek-inspired works, most use graphics of suspect origin as well.

Sometimes it's a case of 'damned if we do, damned if we don't'....

I'm not a trek person but I was looking for something over at DA and saw it earlier. Then I noticed it was over here. At least I know my short term memory still works a little.
