Annoying behavor or is it me?

Moving file icons when deleting

Hi All,

I have a recurring issue that perhaps one of you knows the answer to. Once in a while I will have number of files in either a fence or on the desktop that I wish to delete.

I do so by selecting one file and then using the CTRL key I add files one by one to select them and then I drag them all over to the trash bin. Quite often in addition to this working the way I would imagine it should work (in other words it deletes the files I have chosen) I find that a group of previously selected files (I presume) are "dragged" over that area automatically away from their original fences. This is quite annoying as I find that pressing CTRL-Z to undo the operation while it restores the deleted files does not move the other files back to their original positions. Is this just me or have others noticed this behavior? Is it something I am doing? I would think that if I had preselected other files the act of clicking on the first file to delete would start a new selection process and not include those "old" files.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

-Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I have noticed something similar with regard to previously selected files.

It seems that selections from roll-up fences are saved which in itself can be useful. It could help you to CTRL click something from several roll-up fences. The problem I think is that these selections are quite persistent.

Normally when you left or right click somewhere on your desktop any previous selection is cleared. This doesn't seem to be the case for selections in rolled up fences.

I noticed this problem when i decided to create a new text document on my desktop (right click -> New -> Text Document). The newly created text document is selected and can be renamed immediately. This is normal behavior. What I noticed is that after typing 'test' and pressing ENTER some previously selected document in a roll-up fence is thrown out onto the general desktop and renamed as well. I end up with a new 'test (1).txt' file and an existing document renamed to 'test (2).txt'. CTRL-Z brings back the previous name but I have to move it back to the fence.

Bug: It seems that a left or right click on the general desktop does not clear selections from a rolled up fence.

Workaround: You have to actually reveal the roll-up fence, notice the previous selection and click somewhere inside that fence to get rid of it.

I have not experienced this problem in a normal fence so I decided to disable roll-up fences for the time being.

Ralph

PS: I'm using Fences 3.0.1 on Windows 10
