Upgrading To Win 10 from Win 7

Foreground Window Cannot be replaced on a mouse click

I had Fences 3.0 installed on Win 7 Prof, when I did an upgrade to Win 10, a few days before the July 29th deadline when the free offer ended. What I noticed after the upgrade is that Windows misbehaved after the upgrade. What I observed is that if I had multiple application/windows open, clicking on an iconed app would open it, but not bring it to the foreground. I had to icon the window in the foreground to access the one newly requested.

It took several weeks of frustrating trials and experiments before I suspected it could have to do with Fences and not the Win 10 upgrade. I finally uninstalled Fences 3.0 and by then noticed that Fences 3.1 was available, which I installed. Since then the problem has disappeared.

I thought it might be good to share this experience with others who are facing this problem, as I could not find it being reported anywhere as a Win 10 upgrade issue faced by anyone.
