Site loads slow as molasses!!

john wayne...you are member number 460057 of a site which has over 600,000 registered members, excluding casual visitors.
Currently there are 1,953 logged on [registered users].

Just imagine the 'load'....

no kidding! and if you two guys would log out it might load that much faster for me! so both of you scoot! hehe

actually the site seems to load pretty fast for me these days when I pop in to see everyone complaining about how slow it is...

Jafo, what difference does ones member number carry?? Am I to assume that if I had a lower number that I am entitled to a better loading site. What I am saying is that it is apparent that the servers carrying this site are not up to the job and need a serious upgrade. If they plan on keeping members and attracting visitors then they need to pay attention to providing a quality service, not a slug slow loading site like is currently being provided.

Actually the servers were upgraded at about 300,000 members. not long ago. Probably getting close to another upgrade as this site has doubled since then.

The point is most of those 600000 don't contribute anything to the site they just download. Servers cost money, so does the enormous bandwidth used by all those people downloading. That's why those of us who pay our way here have access to a different server. People who don't pay get what's left. It's simple economics - things cost money to buy and run and the money has to come from somewhere.

It would be great to have more servers, but until more of the 600000 dip their hands in pockets you'll just have to put up things as they are. Or purchase a subscription yourself and get better access now.

Jafo was merely pointing out that there are a lot of registered members on this site. Apparently this site can experience anything up to 2 million unique hits per month! That is a serious load.
Remember also that the bandwidth for this site is fuelled by Stardock, and bandwidth doesn't come cheap. The more people that purchase subscriptions, software etc, all helps to pay for this site and keeps it free of pop-ups and "in your face" advertising. I think WinCustomize does quite well with it's limited resources.
Do you have a broadband connection?, I recently acquired one and it has made such a difference.
If you can afford it, it's the only way to go.

john....some skinning sites post their current member/visitor numbers...a way of showing their [current] popularity...an example would be Customize.org....where most ever was 30 members and 173 guests, Feb this year.....a far cry from our 'load'.
I'm guessing you imagine Wincustomize.com is running off a domestic cable modem, hence its 'lag'.

OK, got a question for Fuzzy on post #5--there's another server??!!! 'Cause I've paid for WindowBlinds, CursorXP, and IconPackager and yeah, I find the site slow. I chalked it up to a ton of graphics loading on each page I access. But, is there another server for paying customers, because I'm one of 'em and I never heard about it!
And BTW, I WOULD have the whole Object Desktop, but I found out from the demos, I have MAJOR conflicts with other apps. I bought all that would work!

MouseGoddess, they are talking about buying a subscription to Wincustomize.com not the Objects Desktop components.

no u get the same rights as if u buy stardock products, all u have to do is cross refereence ur stardock account witht he site, and bam u have subscription server access.
