The funny part is that it ask's you if you are sure that you want to delete the read only _______ whatever you are about to delete, and even then the recycle bin normally isn't set to automatically delete anything sent there and I was hoping that my wife didn't empty it but of course she did

That's really sad news. Last week I did clean install only to find some of my backups were corrupt. I thought I'd lost all my photo scans. Luckily they turned up on an unlabeled cd. Phew!
