Stardock Central

I'm enjoying using Stardock Central but there's one very useful ability that Component Manager has that SC doesn't. If I installed a beta program, and had some trouble with it, Component Manager allowed me to go back to a previous version. Correct me if I'm wrong, but SC doesn't allow for this, or does it? I don't know if anyone on this discussion forum has had the newest beta of Window Blinds cause a beeping sound when making some changes in display properties, as I have had, but I would like to return to WB 3.97 until the problem is resolved.

My usage of the latest WB has not caused any problems so far, are you sure that your problem is caused by WB.

I am running the latest versions of
WB
WFX
SDC
OD

Yes. When I unloaded WB, no beeps. Reload, beeps return. In fact, if you look on the Stardock Window Blinds newsgroup, Subject - "Mozilla and 3.98, plus a new bug" (post date - 3/18), there are a few people who have this same problem.

Nikkicat, i already asked how to roll back to an earlier program version in SC. using SC 0.98 the method is:

select the program
file menu -> archive -> selected app

this creates a zip file of the currently installed version of the program.

the idea is that you can then uninstall a later version of the program, and restore the zip file. i havent tested the restore part myself though.

"selected app & extra files" makes a zip of the program plus its skin's.

the main problem with this plan is you need to make the restore zip before you do an upgrade.

Thanks, feline. I wish I had known that prior to installing WB3.98, and a few other programs as well, via SC. My only other option is to go back to WB 3.90e through Component Manager. I'm definitely not going to do that since 3.95 and above are completely revised. I'll just have to bear with the beeping and hope it's corrected in the next version.

i agree that unless you make lots of backups it is bit of a pain. but, as KarmaGirl pointed out, this was is a lot simpler and more straight forward for the casual user

Also, if you right click on the App there is the option to "Download and Archive". This will download the file and automatically archive the full download. It does not install. Then you can restore that archive you downloaded to installed.

You can also uncheck show pre-release / beta's and go back to the last "Released" version.

ah, good to know that there are some options here

as for the beeping, there is a comment on the update history of the latest WB build that it might fix this. of course, you need to get that build to install *sigh*
